Thread title.

To be serious, I can tell a few things have changed since the last time I tried being active here, even if a lot of things about the site layout itself have not. One thing that I have noticed is that the spell checker seems to be gone. It's a funny omission, since using it was an action that granted Contribution Points, meaning only the oldheads who were able to use it would have any copies of that action in their Contribution Point log.

(Speaking of which, maybe it's the modern Internet, but I don't like using the abbreviation CP anymore. It's been poisoned to me. I know what it stands for here, it just feels weird.)

I can't remember exactly when did we get rid of it, but indeed it's something to be missed. Maybe the new coding and the new versions of browsers made it obsolete or incompatible (sorry for anyone that thought David silently organised a competition where he wanted to check how many typos people made and the results were so amazing he decided to keep it).

I do admit I'd still use it. I live in a non English-speaking country so my browser thinks I'm making typos in every single word and the whole post is underlined red signalling it doesn't recognize these words in my mother language. Thus, finding actual typos is impossible and it somehow ruins writing anything because everything feels wrong. I wish we could go back to the days where they let you freely write anything and only when you asked for it did they bring up the possible typos.

But well, I think we won't have anything like that anymore. Microsoft Word as well as all its competitors and even email services have incorporated this feature so I guess it's ingrained in the coding of basically anything you can type on right now. And in my opinion it's a major setback, because the spellcheck in here did help me refine my English back in the day and realize what I did wrong, something the modern AI-powered tools can't replicate. The progress, ladies and gentlemen, in all its virtue.

The spellcheck on Vizzed unironically helped me learn English. I was a spammer when I joined here, mainly because I could barely speak more than 10 words of English. Typos, grammatical mistakes, all sorts of things that leave me cringing when I find an old post of mine. We had English in school, but that never really prepares you for every day use as well as exposure does. Trying to spell words and seeing how they are actually written with the press of a button helped my mind understand and remember a lot of things. I managed to get ahead of my peers in school and I credit these forums and video games for that.I still make some mistakes of course, but I think everyone does.

It's a shame that the spell checker is gone. I can't imagine it being a very intensive feature, but maybe I'm underestimating it from a coding perspective with the new post layout.
