Dark Mantis was a reploid, cyborgs with human traits such as making their own decisions, determining right from wrong, and showing emotion, that appeared during the events of Mega Man X8. He later became a maverick, reploids that pose a danger to the world, and was destroyed by the Maverick Hunters. Lets learn about his background and more about him.


Dark Mantis was part of a new generation of reploids that had copy chips installed in them. Axle was a prototype of these reploids. The new reploids could temporarily copy another reploids body if needed. The copy chips had advanced circuits and where thought to be more secure. Basically, it was believed they could not become maverick. Oh how that was proven wrong during the events of Mega Man X8. It was later revealed that the copy chips contained Sigma's data as well. All seemed to be going well until maverick outbreaks started to occur.

Dark Mantis was a new generation reploid with the copy chips. He was originally put in charge of weapon development and weapon security. He was put in charge of a highly secure military weapon post. Not only would he develop weapons for the armies of the world, but he would develop weapons for officers and agents as well. He managed his plant very effectively.

After a while humans and reploids built the Jacob's Project which severed as a way for earth to moon travel. Lumine, who is really Sigma, stages an accident on the Jacobs Project. Lumine gets captured which turns out to be a ruse. In the meantime new copy chips reploid start to riot and turn maverick. Dark Mantis was one that turned maverick.

He turned his weapons plant into a base. He started making dangerous weapons for Sigma. He also developed warped ideas. He states that there is no such thing as good or evil. He also states that Sigma was going to create a better world and how the earth needed to be destroyed in the process. He also states this is part of evolution. Moreover, he became very violent and seemed to enjoy watching others suffer. In addition, not only did he make illegal weapons, but he became an assassin for Sigma targeting agents, officers and even the Maverick Hunters. Though he did show some respect for Zero, Axle, and X.

Eventually the 3 Maverick hunters storm his base and encountered him. The 3 Maverick Hunters gave him every chance to stop making weapons for Sigma. They even gave him an offer stop making weapons and we call it day. Mantis refused and said that there is no good or evil and what where the hunters really fighting for. He challenged the hunters and was destroyed in the process. Thus his terror was ended. After destroying Mantis the hunters discovered that Mantis and the others had been planning this for a while. Basically, Sigma (Lumine) had been planning the revolt for a long time.

Appearance- Mantis is a tall reploid that is based off of the praying Mantis. He has two very sharp blades in front of his body. He has large antenna. He has dark, purple, and silver armor. He is also equipped with lens that allows him to see in the very dark. In fact, he is very effective in the dark.

Personality- At first Mantis was calm and level-headed. He proved he was a good manager as he managed his plant very well. He also was very skilled in developing weapons and possessed an engineer like mind. After becoming a maverick his personality changed.

He started to believe that the Earth just craved destruction. He also did not care what happened to the Earth. In addition, he constantly stated to the Hunters that there is no such thing as good or evil. He really believed that nobody could be good but nobody could be bad. Moreover, he believed he could not be a maverick due to his copy chip.

He also did not care to take out those that Lumine/Sigma wanted taken out. He became very violent attacking targets and attacking anyone who entered his base. He seemed to get pleasure out of their suffering. In another encounter with the hunters he admits he likes making his victims suffer in pain before he finishes them off and seems to laugh about it.

Furthermore, he is very confident due to his abilities and does not believe he can be defeated. On the other hand, he did seem to show some respect for the 3 Maverick Hunters. He said that Sigma is connected to Zero and that Zero is a powerful hunter. He states X is always optimistic and that Axle was what new reploids where based off of. However, despite his abilities and intelligence he could not see that what Lumine (Sigma) was doing was wrong. He also could have stopped following Sigma but failed to do so. Thus, his own actions lead to his demise.

Abilities- Mantis is very effective in the Dark as he likes to confront or ambush would be targets. The darker it is the more deadly he becomes. His speed is dependent on the light. If it is very dark he is very fast. He has the ability to charge his large fans to perform a deadly slash attack. His lens allow him to see targets in complete darkness. He also posses highly intelligence and is knowledgeable on every weapon made.

Attacks- Mantis has very powerful attacks that do serious amounts of damage to his victims and opponents. His main attack is his shadow cutter weapons. In this attack Mantis fires dark cutters that can cut through armor at his victims/opponents. One of his powerful attacks is his maul attack. In this attack Mantis will grab his opponent and start stabbing them doing serious damage until the opponent breaks free from his holds. Another powerful attack is his black arrow. In this attack Mantis will shoot multiple black arrows at his opponents. The arrows can pierce through armor. His most powerful and deadly attack is his death slice weapon. Mantis will charge his large slicers and use them in a slicing way to inflict massive damage.

Weaknesses- He is weak to light producing weapons. Weapons that the player gets from Optic Sunflower does a number on Mantis. The slight not only stuns him but it weakens him. The light causes him severe pain. The brighter it is the weaker Mantis gets. This is a contrast to the darker it gets the stronger and faster he is. Also he cannot use some of his ambush attacks when hit with light producing weapons.

Overall, Mantis like several of the X8 reploids started out doing good. He was once a skilled weapon developing and provided high security to the plant he was put in charge of. He also, managed his plant very well. However, the copy chip that was supposed to keep him from going maverick made him more deadly. The copy chip contained Sigma's Data. This made it easy for him to follow Sigma. It also made him develop warped logic. For example, he started to believe that Sigma was wright and that the Earth needed to be destroyed because it was decayed. In addition, he started to believe nobody was right or wrong. Basically there is no such thing as good and evil.

He really got caught up in his believes. Moreover, he seemed to like violence and killings. As he had no problem eliminating targets that Lumine/Sigma told him too. He even got enjoyment out of it. It is implied though that X, Zero, and Axle may have respected him due to his power as they gave him every chance to stop making deadly weapons and attacks and they would call it a day. Instead Mantis refused and that lead to his undoing. Even if the hunters respected him. They did not show any remorse for having to kill him. In some versions of X8 the 3 hunters stated that one of the most dangerous mavericks had been destroyed.

In conclusion, Mantis met a disgraced end. The once respected engineer died a disgrace and as another dangerous maverick. He is not considered a victim because he could have stopped his actions at anytime but instead continued to do evil. This concludes the biography.

Earthrock Trilobyte was a reploid, cyborgs with human characteristics such as showing emotion, and making their own decisions, that first appeared in Mega Man X8. He is a new type of reploid that bears copy chips, more on that in a bite. He later becomes a maverick and is destroyed as mavericks pose a danger to the world. Anyway, lets learn about him.

Trilobyte was a new generation type of reploid that contained a control chip. Axle the maverick hunter was a prototype of this type of reploid. The new generation reploids where designed because they could perform more efficient work. In addition, it was believed they where more secure and could not go maverick. However, unknown to the world at that time the new generation copy chips also contained Sigma's DNA. At first this was not seen as a threat as the chips allowed reploids to temporarily copy sturdy bodies of other and past reploids to work in dangerous environments. Oh but how things where about to go wrong big time.

Trilobyte was originally designed for mining work. His short but stocky body allowed him to use heavy equipment and go into tight places. In time he was put in charge of the mine that he worked out. His job was to not only manage the mine but provide security. The mine he was assigned to was critical for the Earth's Jacob Project. The Jacob Project served as a way for humans/reploids to get to the moon. Basically, it served as an elevator. The Mine Trilobyte worked and managed provided minerals to not just build the project but maintain it.

However, Lumine, who is really Sigma, staged an accident and got captured by mavericks. In the meantime maverick riots start breaking out. Trilobyte started a riot around the mine shutting off access to the mine. He started to follow Sigma who wanted the minerals for his new world. It is revealed that Sigma's new scheme was to destroy the Earth and build a new world with only the copy chip reploids.

X, Zero, and Axle made their way through the mine destroying Trilobytes army of mavericks, and mecholoids that he was going to release. They encountered Trilobyte. Trilobyte proved to be arrogant stated that the hunters where interfering with his mining work for Sigma. He also stated due to his chip he could not be a maverick and did he not consider that Sigma's actions might be justified. He challenged the three hunters and was quickly defeated. With Trilobyte defeated Sigma no longer had access to the mine. Also the mavericks where eliminated giving the world access to the mine.

Appearance- Trilobyte is based off of the extinct Trilobyte. From what I understand a Trilobyte was a land crustacean similar to what we call in Appalachia as Rolly-Pollies. He appears to have brown and gold/yellow armor. He has a shell on his back. Even though, he is short he is very stocky.

Personality- Trilobyte even before becoming a maverick was cocky and very arrogant. He felt like nobody could do a better job than himself. He was also not pleasant to work with either. Still he was effectreiteratesating and managing the mine that his attitude was often overlooked.

When he became a maverick he became even more cocky and he also became very aggressive. He seemed to believe he was superior to other reploids that where not copy chip reploids. He called those that where not new generation outdated models of scrap. He also called the authorities fools and useless. He even called the Hunters old dated reploids. For Axle he called him a useless prototype reploid. Basically he was angry, full of rage, and had no respect for authority as well as laws and safety regulations.

He was also eager for the Earth's destruction stating he shared Sigma's vision that a new world would be born. In fact, he was very excited about it. He is very loyal to Sigma calling him his master and that his master needed minerals. Furthermore, he seems to not be able to see that what Sigma is doing is evil. He reinterates that the Hunters and the fools need to consider that Sigma is justified for wanting to destroy this old decayed world.

Abilities- He was an effective miner and was also effective at operating the mine. He has the ability to dig very deep. He can also push heavy minerals with ease. He also can create large crystals. He is slow while he is in his shell. However, once he is out of his shell he becomes quick.

Attacks-He has some powerful attacks. His main attack is shooting large crystals at his opponents. The crystals can break apart when they hit a wall doing extra damage to his opponent. This is how he can get multiple hits in. His other main attack that he uses for defense is to create a large crystal wall in front of him. This protects him from counter attacks. Also he can use the large crystal wall as a weapon pushing it on opponents. He has the ability to try to run into the player and use his weight as an advantage. He can also create multiple crystal walls to surround himself with and to try to smash his opponents.

He has several weaknesses though- He is the most dangerous when he is in his shell. His shell can be knocked off. Outside of his shell he is the most prone to attacks. Saber shots can shred him. Despite his large size he is weak to gravity attacks. Antonios's gravity weapons do a number on him as they mess his equalibrium up. He is also not quick when he is in his shell. Thus, he can also be open to attacks while in his shell.

Trilobyte is similar to two other crystal bosses. His crystal weapon is similar to Crystal Man's weapon from Mega Man 5 and IV for Gameboy. Crystal Man's weapon would hit walls and bounce off giving him the ability to do extra damage. In addition, he is also similar to Crystal Snail from Mega Man X2. Crystal Snail also used Crystals as a weapon. He was also weak when knocked out of his shell and was prone to attacks. Also like Trilobyte he was fast outside of his heavy shell.

Trilobyte started out with a poor attitude to begin with but the owners of the mine looked over it cause he was effective at mining and operating the mine. When he became a maverick his poor attitude got worse. He looked down on everyone that was not a new generation reploid. He called them fools, old scrap, and useless. He also did not respect any laws or authority. He even used a large mecholoid to protect his mine while he was a maverick. This was against the law. He also tried to set traps for the hunters believing that he was far to superior even for them. He was eager for a new world and to see the Earth's destruction. Therefore, he had no problem mining minerals for Sigma to use.

His own attitude got the best of him though. He underestimated the three maverick hunters. He believed that he could not be beaten by them because they where old. In Axle's case he was just a prototype. His own arrogance was also his downfall. He really believed that what Sigma was doing was right and that everybody else was wrong. Once again he believed that he could easily defeat the three hunters. Ironically despite his new abilities he was quickly destroyed by the three hunters.

In conclusion, Trilobyte was an arrogant and cocky individual before he was a maverick. After becoming a maverick he became aggressive and eager for destruction. The three maverick hunters showed no remorse for having to destroy him. He was also not considered to be a victim. This is due to his poor attitude, and the fact he could have stopped his actions at anytime. Instead he chose evil over doing what is right. This concludes the biography.
