After reading a Barathemos post about how he has been on Vizzed for over 10 years, and with my own 10-year Vizzed anniversary coming up in April, I decided to use Internet Archive Wayback Machine to take a trip down memory lane and see what was going on on Vizzed 10 years ago today.

There is nothing saved from the Vizzed Board page on 1/23/13, but there are two from 1/24/13. 9 years and 364 days ago, Vizzed was... broken lmao.

Jumping a few days into the future did get me what I was looking for, though. On January 29th, 2013, thudricdholee led both the rainbow and white banners in the Tour de Vizzed. Jordanv78 — who was Site Staff at the time, not yet a Global Mod — was 41 points behind for the rainbow banner. Singelli had swept all four jerseys the previous day. There were 364 posts over the previous 24 hours. Christian Conservatives was a forum in Vizzed Ville North, and the most popular rented forums included Super Mario and Mother Fan Forum, Muffin's My Little Pony Forum, The Armed Forces Forum, and SpeedRun Forum (can we brick that one back?).

The memberlist page was also saved from that day, and it shows that David was, unsurprisingly, the wordiest member with over 1.6 million words typed at that point. He also had the most posts, with 25,607. Only five users had more than 10,000 posts — David, legacyme3, geeogree, YourMajestyKen, and septembern. tRIUNE was the only admin (geeogree was listed as Vizzed Elite, but had a line above his name, so unsure about that), the global mods were pacman1755, Lazlo Falconi, and KG. The local mods were BNuge, bvd1022, Crazy Li, silverthundr, soxfan849, sonicmcmuffin, and mlb789.

Pretty cool to look back. Think I might continue looking through these archives. If I find anything interesting I'll post it in this thread. Feel free to do the same as well!

A while back I spent some time looking through all the different designs the site had for a post in geeo's AMA thread to see which designs he preferred so it's really cool seeing I'm not the only one using the way back machine to see the past on Vizzed, I hope we get more posts about the past from you because you document it way better than I could.

Well, this is by far the most nostalgic for me personally: July 30th, 2013. Looking at the most recent poster for a few of the different forums will show you an italicized tgags123, who had 156 posts, was 30 years old (actually 14), signed up 95 days ago, and was a normal member. Nearly every username on this page I recognize, and I miss many of them. PixelBrick, malkin77, Dean2k13, linkmaster99, B619ook, SuperCrash64, DittoDude44. All people that have been gone for ages.

thing1 leads the rainbow banner, with Razor-987 (now SacredShadow), Fireproof, Divine Aurora, and Black Bot trailing him. Funnily enough, all of those users except for Razor would end up getting a perma ban. Even funnier than that, only Fireproof's would actually remain permanent.

Another italicized normal member name caught my attention as well: a 13-year-old Zlinqx was pretty active that day. He had registered on 8 days prior, but had already racked up 114 posts.

Some time between January of 2013 and July of 2013 the Christian Conservatives forum had been demoted to rented forum status.

I decided to get even more personal, and check out what was archived for my profile. The first snapshot is from August 12, 2013. The next snapshot is exactly 2 months later, on October 12, 2013. And HOLY CRAP is the change drastic. 224 posts to 2,178 posts. 718 CP to 4,063 CP. 0 trust points to 10 trust points. Normal member to Site Staff. Basic profile layout to an overcoded mess. And perhaps the craziest difference: 30 years old to 14 years old lmao.

I have been on this site now for almost 11 years. I first came on this site in August 2012. Looking back on it now. I stumbled on this site to play classic games. I kept searching play classic games and this site came up. I liked what I saw. I can remember the changes this site has undergone over the years. For me personally, I have been active and non-active on this site.

Tgags, I thought you had been on this site for a long time too. I did not compete in that tour. But I do remember a lot of those users getting banned for a while.

It's really heartwarming to look back to the past. The people that was active, the things happening around, the activity... And specially how dumb your younger self was xD

I rarely reminisce of times past as I like to continue going forward. I do keep special moments in my memory and I make sure to treasure them as I keep going ahead. That helps me when I look back and see the familiar names that used to hang out around here.

I wasn't yet an involved member by those times, and boy I truly missed some things. I was mostly away of public knowledge of who was staff or mod until I myself became staff back in 2014, so it's surprising for me to see who occupied the higher ranks in times past and when I started to stick my head out in this place. I wish my younger me would have been more involved with the community, but given how I was never close to such levels of activity I guess I'd have been overwhelmed in a place I felt like an absolute stranger.

We definitely need an historic thread similar to this where all of us can share moments from the past. However, that would be more fitting for December 2024 as this current iteration of Vizzed will turn 20 years old then and it would be a nice timing for us to share our most precious memories.
