I would like to add

An Anti-hero is usually a character that may have good intentions but may go about them the wrong way. They might even do some things that resemble a villain when really they are not.

Bass from the Mega Man Series is often considered an anti-hero. He sometimes fights Mega Man and Proto Man. Mega Man and Proto Man have strong senses of justices. Both believe in protecting the world mostly from Dr. Wily. Strangely Dr. Wily made Bass but Bass wants to prove he is the strongest Robot built.

Unlike Mega Man and Proto Man which follow moral codes. Bass does not. Yet he is an anti hero because he has teamed with Mega Man and Proto Man to take down a bigger foe. Bass revealed there is some good in him when he said I will not fight humans because humans made us robots. We should depend on one another.

Wario from the Mario games is kind of another example. Wario does good things but only when there is a reward for them. This is different than Mario, Luigi and Yoshi who do it because they have a strong sense of justice and a moral code. Wario also behaves like a villain as he will cheat, and do what it takes to get what he wants.
