Recently got a Nintendo switch and picked this game up. I played through Yellow a few times when I was younger, but now my 5 year old is hoping to play. I know I struggled a bit and had to grind up levels for a long time to even have a chance. I basically 'brute forced' all my wins instead of having any idea what I was really doing.

Hoping to make the experience a little better for my son. Even if there are certain types that are necessary like fire, water, lighting that would be sufficient and might make it a little more fun for him instead of just finding an extra pokemon. I will be helping him along the way but want to have a little bit of an idea of what type of group to look for. 10.0.0.0.1 192.168.1.254

Any help greatly appreciated!

Well first thing I'll say is level grinding is a lot easier in Let's Go due to catching wild pokemon giving tons of exp if you chain them so you can level up quite quickly if you get the hang of that in terms of good pokemon to have I always think pokemon like Nidoking, Snorlax, and Starmie are good options for Kanto due to typings and move coverage options.

If you want the easiest legit just your starter. There are move tutors that can teach it different type moves. In cerulean the guy teaches a fire, electric, and water type move which is in my opinion a pretty good diversity.
Otherwise I do feel like SonicOlmsteads choices probably the best you can get.
