For me, nothing beats the soundtrack from Castlevania II: Simon's Quest. It is not only my favorite soundtrack from a NES game, but its my favorite all time. I mean right as you begin the game, you get hit with one of the BEST tracks ever, Silence of Daylight. It is just so good, in my opinion.

Any Megaman soundtrack. Reason? It pumps you up for the battle ahead, or the final fight against Wily. It don't matter what level, it's always appropriate for the theme. It's just perfect scoring for a game.

I will always stand up for Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, that game's soundtrack was levels above the normal NES standard and was beautiful on terms I can't even describe they did so well with that game and it's music, I can only hope they port it over and remaster it. Especially with how many genres they attempted to compose. Another game with a great soundtrack from that era would be Lufia 2, one of the best boss themes made in my opinion
