This is a rant and a public service announcement...almost. I have things to say about Maitetsu: Pure Station. I hope this post serves to prevent someone else from making the mistake I made, which is...buying this game... Let's begin.
So, What is Maitetsu: Pure Station? Well, it's a visual novel for Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PC, putting aside the fact that the original PC version contains content that will never be available for the console versions (hentai or sex scenes), the game was recently released for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in the west, I bought the game yesterday on launch day, and I already regret it...
For starters, the game, as far as I know, is a kinetic visual novel, this means that the game is only about reading dialogue and you never have to choose between two or more dialogue choices or decisions that affect the course of the story, Maitetsu: Pure Station is just reading dialogue, and it's...ugh, a little boring, even if, I admit, the story is a little better than the story of Nekopara Vol. 1. More than anything else, the biggest problem that Maitetsu: Pure Station has is the translation, it's so bad I can't even believe it, Nekopara Vol. 1 on Nintendo Switch has a better translation. There are many, many errors throughout the game, the errors are VERY frequent, I...honestly can't believe that Circle Entertainment published the game in this state, the translation is very bad, I took screenshots every time I found an error (for the most part) and, in the end, after I decided I had enough...I had taken more than 50 screenshots, examples of errors? ''This place hasn't change at all, has it?''; ''Makura-nee watches me happily as I hands begin moving with renewed purpose.''; ''Not that I expected anything less from the from the current head of the Migita family-- the chief brewer of Kuma Shochu.''; ''W-Well, if you hadn' t dodge my slap, I...''; ''I open up it' s tiny hand. In its palm, a dull golden sheen gleams--'' and many, many more errors...and let me tell you, those errors are from early parts of the game, you don't have to play the game a lot to find them...
For me, however, the drop that spilled the glass, or ''la gota que derramo el vaso'', as we say in Spanish, was to find out that the version published for Nintendo Switch is even more censored than the Japanese PS4 version! Apparently the removal of the explicit content or sex scenes wasn't enough, and for some reason, the Nintendo Switch version published by Circle Entertainment is even more censored than it should, do you want proof? Here it is https://twitter.com/Ichikyo57/status/1217518681011429377. As you can see, Hachiroku's chest is more covered in the Nintendo Switch version compared to the Japanese PS4 version, there is the possibility that the Japanese Nintendo Switch version was also published by Circle Entertainment, considering that the same Twitter user Ichikyo, shows that on the Nintendo Switch UI, Circle Entertainment is shown as the publisher, and yes, the fact that the game received an update (version 1.0.2) probably has something to do with that. I don't care if this censorship is because of Circle Entertainment, or if the developer Lose requested more changes for the Nintendo Switch release, I don't even care if this censorship also affects the western release for PS4 and not just the Nintendo Switch version, the point is, the game is more censored than it should, and that...was what finally made me want to stop playing... I already deleted the game, for now, I still have my save file and all those screenshots I took, but I don't plan to play the game anymore, I've had enough...
With all those errors, not to mention the censorship, I can't recommend this game to anyone... If you are a fan of visual novels, get Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness, Xblaze Code: Embryo, World End Syndrome... I don't know, just...don't buy Maitetsu: Pure Station. If you want to play a kinetic visual novel for Nintendo Switch, get Nekopara Vol. 1 or something, I've heard that Planetarian is a great kinetic novel, I haven't played it, but I've heard that it's a good place to start with kinetic visual novels...I can't believe I payed more than $600 pesos for Maitetsu: Pure Station, the price tag of $34.99 is too high, considering not just the censorship, but also the many errors...In the end, my recommendation is: Buy something else...Do NOT buy Maitetsu: Pure Station for Nintendo Switch and PS4...
