I've seen both of these trilogies a million times. They're both directed by the same person, so they're pretty similar. I wonder what your opinions are on the trilogies and their individual movies.

I think the Hobbit was actually really well done considering how stretched it was, but I didn't enjoy the added fake Elf arc. She was basically just padding the Elf. On that note, I'm certain Lord of the Rings is superior to the Hobbit, but I'd like to list how I feel about the movies from best to worst.

1. Return of the King.
2. The Battle of the Five Armies.
3. The Two Towers.
4. The Fellowship of the Ring.
5. An Unexpected Journey.
6. The Desolation of Smaug.

Let me make clear that the last two were a difficult choice. I just remember liking the Goblin Town number a lot, and The Desolation of Smaug is a misnomer as he only appears for a few minutes. I don't really hate it, but the third movie in that Trilogy is way cooler. I almost like Two Towers more than Five Armies on the note of Saruman alone, but I adore Dain and his insanity.

What's your take?

I'm not all that big into Lord of the Rings, I was too young to be really involved when the hype first began and I never caught on to it, but I loved the Hobbit movies. I saw all of them in theaters in a premium format like 3D and I loved the visuals and the music so much but I wasn't a fan of Battle of the Five Armies myself, I feel like there could have been better parts to cut between the 2nd and 3rd films to make the 3rd more intense.

pennylessz : I love them but I've also always been a fan of Peter Jackson. He made one of the very best horror movies ever called "Dead Alive" before he got famous. He also made classics like "Bad Taste" where Aliens are harvesting humans for their fast food joints. Meet the Feeble's is also his claymation style adult humor movie. Pretty much anything he makes is great.

1.Return of the King
2. 2 Towers
3.Fellowship
4.Journey
5.Smaug

I would say I prefer the hobbit but that is mostly because I watched it before the lord of the rings and the first time I watched lord of the rings I didn't really understand what was going on half of the time because of how young I was and I'm pretty sure I watched them out of order on accident... The hobbit also has some of my favourite scenes too. XD
