I need some input and advice. I took an exam yesterday, the biggest exam of my life. It was so big that I took it 22 hours ago and haven't slept since. I think I did okay but I butchered one of the sections completely.

Part 1: Essay. I think I got an 80-85 on it.
Part 2: Essay. I think I got an 80.
Part 4: Multiple choice questions. I estimate I got an 8 out of 10.
Part 5: True or false. I estimate I got a 7 out of 10.

Part 3: 20 Fill in the blank questions. I left more than half of them blank. The only ones I 100% knew were Jeffrey Epstein and Keanu Reeves.

If you knew you did that badly on such a big exam would you worry that it would effect the grade too much or be confident in the other sections?

I'd do a quick prayer even though I'm not religious and then treat myself to some good food and try to get some sleep. I don't really worry too much about results since there's nothing I can physically do to improve them anyway and with that in mind I'm able to just kind of block it out.

I did that last year when I knew some parts of exams were s***, but it also probably helped that I already knew I wanted to switch majors the next year.

The only exam I was worried about was a statistics exam I took since it's almost a universal subject in our university so I'd have to retake it this year if I didn't pass it. I was doing okay but one question worth 20% of the final score had me confused, and when I finally thought I was doing okay going through it step by step I reached a negative number and knew it was game over for that one. I did well enough on the rest of the exam to pass though :3

zanderlex : Trust your gut. I find that when you constantly 2nd guess yourself that you are putting too much thought into it and you likely did just fine or maybe even better because you are being too critical of yourself. I've been there and done that.

I think that you're overthinking it too, try and take a moment to just relax and clear your mind. Usually if you stress out about it too much it makes things worse for you not only mentally but health wise too.

So it turns out I was right to be worried. I did well on every other part of the exam and application but because of this one small part, I didn't get in.

One of my professors did ask for an appeal though but even if it goes through and they end up accepting me, it wouldnt be until after the semester has started.

I would also be worried about how I did on an exam like that especially if it was that huge. Even on exams I was somewhat confident in for most of the answers, I got worried about missing points because exams affect my grades in my classes so much.

I remember how torturous my World Literature mid-term exam was. I had an hour to complete an exam that had incredibly specific questions about the books I was reading. Those books were The Odyssey and The Aeneid which are both REALLY old epic poems. (Epic poems are massive stories that consist entirely of poetry. Half of the stories are just the characters chatting away at each other, or at least that's how it was with what I read.

I ended up getting a bad grade on that exam, but I made up for it with the next exam. That's the thing with exams... if there's just one, it's frightening. If there's more than one in a semester, it's OK.

zanderlex : Yeah. I hope they do. Did you find that there wasn't enough time for each section? That's a problem I often have.

zanderlex : Wow, that seems quite good! I've had a generous amount of time on take-home exams before. I usually had a week or more to complete them. Most of them weren't that big, but one of them was basically an 8-page paper.

I guess I should have gave an update on this. I did find out that it was because of my entrance exam that they didn't accept me but they responded to the appeal only after a couple days and both accepted me and gave me a scholarship.

But on the other hand, it's been super hard to keep up with schoolwork with everything online and no access to any of the schools facilities or support.
