Just like last year, I decided to make a thread about the Omega Labyrinth series. Yes. Omega Labyrinth Life has been released not just in Japan, but also the rest of the world, D3 Publisher published the game worldwide. Unfortunately, the game is a digital-only release in America (the continent, people), Europe and Australia, but for those who don't have a problem with that or don't mind it that much, this is a good way to support these kinds of games. After all, yes, digital downloads will disappear someday, but at least you don't have to worry about shipping costs and whatnot, not to mention that as a digital download, you are directly supporting the publisher.

Anyway, it's true that this day also marks the release of Labyrinth Life, but who cares about that? Omega Labyrinth Life is the way this new installment should be played, with all its suggestive glory. I don't plan to get the game, maybe...I won't get it, I mean, $1163.81 Mexican pesos is a lot...seriously D3 Publisher? all that money...it's a steep price tag for a digital-only game that, I'm sure, doesn't even have an English dub...maybe for many Mexicans like me the price is a little too high...for now at least, I'll wait for more news regarding the western release of Mary Skelter 2, at least that game should have an English dub unlike Omega Labyrinth Life and...Labyrinth Life.

Anyway, here's the page on Nintendo.com, since it's an M-rated game, you'll have to verify your age if you enter: https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/omega-labyrinth-life-switch/

So, let's see if I understand this: Omega Labyrinth Life is the sequel to Labyrinth Life?

I'm asking because Sony has it listed as simply Labyrinth Life, and apparently it indeed is the prequel given how the "boxart" is different, but the description and screenshots provided in Sony's page are mostly the same as in Nintendo's page.

Oh, and there's nothing wrong with the original Japanese voices if the subs aren't messed up. I honestly have grown to discard any dubs and use the original voices in my games, for they're the purest form of playing the game, without the stupid changes brought forward by the dubbing industry.

EX Palen : Omega Labyrinth Life and Labyrinth Life are, in one way or another, the same game. The thing is, with the censorship that Sony has been imposing lately, it's impossible to publish the Nintendo Switch version as it is. Labyrinth Life is either a version of the game that Sony forced D3 Publisher to censor, or it's a game that D3 Publisher wanted to publish for the PS4, even though it's much less suggestive than the Nintendo Switch version and wasn't censored by Sony themselves. Either of those 2 scenarios could be the situation here. To quote Dan from Censored gaming, even ''the name change results in the Omega symbol being removed from the game's logo, which was originally used tongue in cheek as a reference to the female anatomy.''

So, yeah, Omega Labyrinth Life is not the sequel of Labyrinth Life, they are two different versions of the same game, and by definition, both games are the sequel of Omega Labyrinth Z.

lolid23 : I'm leaning towards the first scenario, which is Sony's censorship, they're so close minded so as to pull off a trick like that. But I doubt they censored anything else than the title, Sony has released other titles which are way more suggestive than the original Labyrinth of Life.

As a Sony gamer, I'm growing to hate them for their stupid decisions. First comes cross-play, then "we're not at E3 because we're important", now they don't want a game released on another system when they've released much worse games... This is getting ridiculous.

Sounds a lot to me like Sony has found out what people don't like and have done it

All jokes aside I have never even heard of the series but if it's as bad as all that, maybe it did need a bit of censorship to pass muster for a rated M game in their country.

ESRB ratings are subjective to the countries they originate from and their target markets. Maybe with the way things are going where I am, an "M" rating wouldn't be a PG-13.

Short opinion even shorter, maybe it's not just Sony pulling the strings here anymore? There's got to be a bigger picture to global marketing and sales sustainability. If Sony wants to put out a bad remake of a decent game, that's their fault. If Nintendo made a game that's a bit too racey for kids, then maybe it's their fault. Point is, I don't make the rules I just try to live with them

David1217 : Perhaps it's true that it's not just Sony pulling the strings here, as I said, there is the possibility that Sony themselves didn't had anything to do with the release of Labyrinth Life besides giving the game the ok. Maybe it was just a separate release of the same game that Matrix Corporation developed and then, D3 Publisher published the game specifically for PS4 as a less suggestive version of Omega Labyrinth Life, complete with the lack of ''Omega'' in the logo and title.

I don't want to sound rude, but your argument of the game needing ''a bit of censorship to pass muster'' doesn't apply when there isn't a distinction regarding the age ratings of both versions, not just in Japan, but also the rest of the world, and in Japan for example, both versions of the game (Omega Labyrinth Life and Labyrinth Life) got a D rating, which means 17 years and up. In Europe it's a similar story, both versions are rated PEGI 16, so...if the game is very different on PS4 but even so it has the same age rating...then what's the point? Especially because a game of this series without a lot of suggestive content is like a Mortal Kombat game without intense violence.

Perhaps for people who get really uncomfortable playing these kinds of games, maybe I could see the point of a PS4 version, but other than that...I don't see the point of that version.

lolid23 : My point really was, if you want to get a life-long member for a long-lived game series, you have to target them when they're young, and some parents are a bit more conservative when it comes to what kind of content they want their children to see. Maybe it's appropriate for the buyers, but would you really want your children playing this game? kinda comes into context when you're looking to make a franchise.

David1217 : Well, this game isn't even appropriate for kids, but I'm not going to argue that point about parents, and well, it's true that many parents let their kids play Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto and Fortnite, but many, not everyone certainly, but many of those parents wouldn't let their kids play Omega Labyrinth Life in the event that they knew that this game exists.

In any case, I'm sure that, for the most part, companies like Compile Heart, Tamsoft and D3 Publisher (especially nowadays) don't have kids as their target audience.
