Back in the day, I was able to throw a Xat chat onto a web page, and it would work right there. Why does it feel like things have only gotten more complex since then? If anything, things should get more streamlined with time. I know I saw a site request to get this done though, so I hope David will work on it soon, that and the New Thread page.
