For a while now, I’ve been wanting to infuse life into this forum, but I never got around it due to a variety of reasons. However, I’m now determined to at least do my part.

Historically, not many sports have been followed on this site, even some US-based ones went largely unnoticed. That’s why I made this: a place where people can suggest a sport to have its own thread.

My initial intention was to make report threads for sport seasons, with one person in charge of bringing up the results as soon as possible and everyone else discussing how the event was, what happened, how’s the season going… But I now see that it’s better to simply create threads where a certain sport season can be discussed, with no real need of posting results or reports.

Which sports can be suggested?

-US-based sports. Ideally, this would only include top-notch competitions instead of lower levels. However, those lower levels can also be mentioned if they have any information directly affecting the highest level (participation of important people previously in the highest level, they’re supporting the main event hold by the highest level, a participant is confirmed to be in the highest level next season…)

-World Cups/Championships. Besides the above restriction of lower levels, World Cups/Championships should either 1) hold at least one event in the US or 2) have US participation. Exceptions shall be made for sports where US participation is now a thing of the past yet they have the venues active.

How will the threads be created?

The person in charge of creating the thread can be the first user to suggest it. If they state in their post they don’t want to be in charge of it, we mods will decide if we give it to somebody else or we create it ourselves.

We mods will also decide when the thread has to be created. For example, no point in creating today a thread for a season that will start on May.

How much support must a sport have in order to be given a thread?

I don’t really have any specific number in mind, because some people might jump in only after the discussion thread has been made. For now, it will be up to the mods to give the green light to any suggestion.

List of suggestions

-Formula One (season starts 03/15). Hosts one round in the US and also in Canada and Mexico, plus one of the teams on the grid is US-based.

-Moto GP (season starts 03/08). Hosts one round in the US, there used to be up to three on a single season and there’ve been great champions historically like the late Nicky Hayden.

-Formula E (season ongoing). Has important US influence through the Penske and Andretti families, plus a double-header final round held in the streets of Brooklyn, New York.

-Tennis (season ongoing). Hosts several big-name tournaments in the US, and it has a big number of top-tier players in both the men’s and women’s tour.

-Winter Sports. Since the seasons will end this month, these would be put on hold until next winter, though off-season threads can be allowed in the meantime.

Approved suggestions

2019 Indycar Season

Zlinqx : Feel free to throw any feedback or add anything to this post. I'll be sticking the thread for now.

This thread will be updated whenever new information needs to be added.

Anything racing (F1, FE, NASCAR, Indycar, IMSA, etc...) I’m all aboard in. If there is any interest for threads like that, I’d certainly always been posting in there.

I really follow every sport, other than soccer and cricket, so I’m pretty on board with anything, just racing is my forte.

Barathemos : With someone like you saying that, I feel like making threads for all the sports I follow xD

I'm also a lot into racing. Besides the ones I listed as my own suggestions, I also follow Rallycross and TCR, plus a bit of Superbikes whenever I spot them on TV as well as the WEC (though mostly restricted to Le Mans as the other races may not be fully streamed live). And whenever I can, I attend my local track for any racing action it may be hosting, like happened two weeks ago with the F1 Test Days.

I don't follow NASCAR since I can't watch the races live, but that was like the second choice after Indycar that should have been made into a thread already due to its popularity. I probably wouldn't be following that thread because there's almost one race every weekend of the year and that's too hectic for me (I sometimes even fail to keep up with the sports I can actually watch on TV), but I'm sure it'd be one of the most active threads.
