Do you collect sports cards? If you don't now, did you as a kid? Which sports did you collect the most cards from?
I absolutely loved baseball cards as a kid, I have a ton of them in my room. I particularly liked rookie cards, as I thought it was cool to have a card from a player before they became a star. I'm also a big fan of autographed cards, but unfortunately I don't have too many of them. I would love to continue collecting baseball cards now, but they're so damn expensive lol. I also have a small collection of hockey cards. I absolutely loved baseball cards as a kid, I have a ton of them in my room. tgags123 : Lol this is literally one of the threads I was working on on my way home to post today.
I love collecting cards. For baseball I have thousands of cards but need to get rid of most of them. I have tons of autos and relics ans valuable cards. My biggest collections are of Matt Harvey and Mallex Smith. I have dozens of their cards that are valued at $50-100+. I also have a decent collection of football cards. I love collecting cards. I do collect cards. I Personally Collect (PC) any cards that indicates the player is a Raven.
I have a binder and a half worth of cards that are not in my online org yet, but I should have about 3000+ different cards currently valued at around $4000 to 5000 or so. If you include everything I have up for trade right now, it's about 3000 PC cards, just over 6000 cards for trade, and a total value of $14,047.30 ($13,980.76 if you consider the condition some of the cards are in) I have a binder and a half worth of cards that are not in my online org yet, but I should have about 3000+ different cards currently valued at around $4000 to 5000 or so. thing1 : dayum, that's a lof of value.
My value is much lower but I think I only have a couple hundred cards actually listed. I don't think I list like 90% of my cards because of how much work it is and how likely someone would actually want them. dark mode : I list everything because it's a good way to track what I have for my PC and what I need and want to trade for.
Also, you never know. I've done a few trades recently with some set buildings completing some 2017 and 2018 football sets. Heck, I had a guy this past summer take about 500 cards off my hands trying to complete some various mid 2000's sets. Also, you never know. thing1 : I don't like that because what if you sell or trade or giveaway a card somewhere else? You'll have to remember to take down the listing or someone's going to want it and it turns out you don't have it anymore. |

So I decided to go through my collection and actually weed out some of my cards so that I can talk about the best ones and show some photos too. Here they are.
The guy that I collect the most of is Matt Harvey. I remember at the end of 2016 I had spent years trying to get my hands on one of his Bowman cards. They were super expensive and I just wanted to get 1. Now I have a nice small collection of them. After I got the first one, which was just his base, it was easier to get more. Once he started sucking, the prices dropped a lot. I remember one point in like 2014 his gold Bowman auto that was not graded cost about $800. A fee months ago I was able to get one that's graded 9.5 for about $130. That card is still probably the best and most valuable card that I own. Right now I have two of his base autos as well as one refractor numbered to 500, one blue numbered to 150, and 1 gold numbered to 50. The two colored ones are both graded a 9.5. If I can get my hands on the orange one I would have an amazing collection. I do have an orange one that isn't signed and that's also graded 9.5. Here's some photos of those cards. https://mobile.twitter.com/zanderlex/status/1084663753998811136 I also have a lot of other Harvey cards that are super valuable. Some time last year I got my hands on a black high tek autograph. It's graded 9. Normally I don't like cards that are graded 9 because that's basically the same as a card that isn't graded. But this was a 1/1 autograph and I got it for really cheap so I couldn't say no. I also have an assortment of Harvey cards that are very valuable or simply really good looking. I have one that has a clean red autograph and is low numbered. I have a gold card that's signed by both Harvey and David Price. I also have a very thick jersey swatch auto. I also have some other cards that are really low numbered like a beautiful gold patch numbered to 10, A dual patch auto numbered to 25, and 3 non signed 1/1 cards. Here are pictures of those. https://mobile.twitter.com/zanderlex/status/1084665233484980229 The next player that I collect a lot of is Mallex Smith. He's one of my favorite hitters and I have a lot of rare cards of his. My two rarest cards are both from 2016 Topps Pro Debut. One is a red auto card and one is a black non signed card. The auto is numbered to 5 and the black is a 1/1. I paid $40 for the auto and traded a super short print Francisco Lindor for the Black after seeing it on eBay for months. I also have a decent collection of low numbered cards of his because I always looked for those. I have two other autos that are numbered to 5 and one that is numbered to 10. In addition to those, I have dozens of signed and non signed cards that range from 25 to 100 copies as well as close to 100 base relics and autos. Here are some photos of the best ones https://mobile.twitter.com/zanderlex/status/1084666347949379586 The only other player that I have a decent collection of is Chris Sale, and I don't think I ever bought one of his cards before, I only traded for them. The highlight of my collection is his base Bowman auto which books at $150. Other than that one, I only have a couple other autos and relics that are numbered to 50 or less along with some other good https://mobile.twitter.com/zanderlex/status/1084666774442991617 The only other players that I collect are Michael Fulmer and Charlie Blackmon but I only have one or two good cards of each. The rest of my collection is an assortment of beautiful looking cards, very low numbered cards, and cool 1/1 cards. I have a Travis d'Arnaud patch auto and I just love it so much. I would probably never trade it because it's so beautiful. The colors of the patch are good and it's so symmetrical that it could be the highlight of one of those satisfying videos. Plus it's 25/25. I also have a couple other 1/1 cards, as well as a /3 card, a /10 card, and other beautiful ones. Here are some pics of those too. https://mobile.twitter.com/zanderlex/status/1084667983874715648 The rarest card that I have doesn't have much value because its of one of thr most unknown players ever. If you look at base prices for a players first Bowman autograph, the Chris Sale card costs $150. Then you go down the line and a Matt Harvey one costs $50. Then you go all the way to the bottom and this guy sits there at $8. His name is Bobby Borchering and its a 2009 Bowman Chrome autograph numbered to 5. A Bowman card numbered to 5 is extremely rare and to top it off, the card has a 9.5 grade which makes it super rare. But of course it's Borchering so it's not worth as much. You look at Sale Bowman autos and his one that's numbered to 50 books for $800 so an ungraded that's numbered to 5 would probably have a book value of well over $2500. Borcherings /50 card has a book value of only $40. So I estimate that a /5 graded card would only book for about $300. In addition to those, I have a huge collection of other cards. I have dozens of good Topps Chrome and Bowman Chrome autos, hundreds of numbered cards and The guy that I collect the most of is Matt Harvey. Do sports stickers count? Our local supermarkets always had these sticker books every time the UEFA Euro or the world cup would be happening. All the kids tried to beg their parents to spend 5 more euros in the store so they hit the amount of money needed for two extra stickers. Playgrounds at school would turn into black markets with lots of manipulation and extortion. One kid even printed a rare sticker onto a common one so he could get mad deals with it. Kids are scary businessmen because they don't care about what's legal or not. |
