Whether you're in middle school, high school, college, or graduate school, are you involved in any school clubs?

I'm currently involved in four clubs at my college. I used to be in College Republicans, but that club kind of fell apart and I don't really like any of the people in it so I don't really go to any of their meetings anymore. The four clubs I am still a part of are BU Poker Club, College Libertarians, Newman Association, and Binghamton Review.

Poker Club is pretty self-explanatory, it's a club where we play poker. We have meetings once a week, online tournaments once a week, and big multi-table tournaments one or two times a month. We also have an RFID table and live stream our tournaments to Twitch, which is really cool.

College Libertarians is also somewhat self-explanatory. We have meetings once a week, and in those meetings we basically just meme about a bunch of random stuff and how everything should be legal. There aren't a lot of us in the club and we all know each other pretty well, so it's usually a good time.

Newman Association is the Catholic students club at my college. I don't go to a lot of their events, but I do go to their mass every Sunday with two of my friends, so I count it as a club that I'm involved in.

Finally, Binghamton Review is the club I dedicate the most time to by far. It's a student-run publication that emphasizes and values freedom of speech. We'll publish any opinion or point of view, but traditionally the paper has been primarily dominated by conservative and libertarian ideas. I joined the club as a freshman last year and quickly became a staff writer. This year in addition to being a writer I'm also the social media manager, and it's very likely I will be the Editor-in-Chief next year, as our current EIC and Managing Editor are both graduating.

What about you? What clubs are you involved in at school?

Yes and no. I wouldn't exactly call the ones I'm in clubs because they are more restricted and professional.

The big one is the school newspaper. I spent the last two semesters as the sports editor. In total between sports, arts, and news, I was writing about 4 to 7 articles per issue and editing another 1 to 2. I got paid around $300 per issue. Starting in the spring semester I'm going to take over as the arts editors.

I was also with the school radio, which most students aren't even allowed to join. I read PSA's and all sorts of school event news and each semester I was in charge of updating music. On my own time i had to find 100 songs for each genre, download them from YouTube and then upload them to the station.

zanderlex : Damn, I wish I got paid for the work I do for Binghamton Review! I also do some editing in addition to writing and running the website and social media pages, but I don't get any money for it. Even as the Ediotr-In-Chief next year I won't be compensated for the time and effort I put into the paper.

I'm glad you mentioned the radio show, because I'm actually involved with a radio show on our school's radio station as well. I forgot to mention it because I'm not actually on the show, I just help out with some behind-the-scenes stuff.

I was a "member" of the Auburn Student Veteran Association my freshman year, but since then, I haven't really done much for clubs. I don't have many actual friends on campus, but more like a bunch of acquaintances.
If I had actual friends, I might do more club stuff, if my friends were actively involved.

Nah, no clubs. Not really for me, I suppose. My school is very corrupt and unfair and I would like to avoid it as much as possible. However, in middle school I was on the track team and I did pretty good besides that one time I threw up at a track meet because 7.8/10 too much water.

tgags123 : Huh that's weird that you don't get paid. The cheapest a writer gets paid here is $20 per article.

zanderlex : I mean it's probably because we don't make much of a profit. Our papers are given out for free, so our only income comes from advertising within the paper, and most (if not all) of that money is put towards paying for printing costs. So it makes sense that we aren't paid, although it would be nice if we were.

I'm in one club- the gaming club.

It's not what you think it is, it's mostly just playing DnD-eque games. We're currently playing Pulp Call of Cthulhu and it's very fun.

And I guess every month on a Friday there's the Smash club where people play Smash. Wonder if we'll get upgraded to Ultimate or still play Smash 4.

Nope and never was I ever involved with any clubs at school honestly it just seemed like extra work for elective courses that didn't improve my grade so I just didn't look into them granted clubs were I guess a place where you could meet your fellow peers but to me it just didn't seem to matter and alot of the clubs weren't on topics or anything of interest to me.

No, but I want to be. I attend a community college and I'm currently working on a bachelor's of computer science. There are two clubs that are right up my alley: cyber security club and game development club. I have all the information I need and the clubs have been in session for more than a month now. I'm just trying to work up the nerve to actually go. I'm very shy and not all that good with people in general. However, people inform me that interacting with other humans is somehow important.
