About a week after the new Spider-Man game came out, I already wrote a long thread about everything that was wrong with the way Manhattan was designed. By that point I already played the game for a long time but I put even more hours into the game since then and thought it was time for a review.
Graphics: 9
The graphics are nothing short of amazing in this game. The two things I have to praise the most about graphics are the animations and attention to detail. All the buildings and the detail of the buildings and streets are beautiful. For the animations, all the cutscenes are amazing and the movement of swinging and climbing are so fluent and work so well. The game is just so good to look at.
Sound: 9
I love the sound of the game. The music is great and the voices are great too. I love the theme music and the music that plays while swinging and all the different sound effects make the game more fun and realistic.
Addictiveness: 10
The game is so much fun. All the missions and fighting are really just taking a backseat to the swinging and exploring though. When I started playing, I didnt even do the first mission after the tutorial for hours, I was just exploring Manhattan. No matter how much swinging and climbing you do, it never gets boring. Plus combat is so much fun. There's just so much to do and it will never get old.
Depth: 9
The game has so much to do. Even though some stuff isn't all that great, there's a lot. In addition to the long three act main story, there's a bunch of side missions as well as a lot of different tasks such as taking photos, finding backpacks, and more. Plus the map is huge and there's hundreds of buildings for you to swing through and climb.
Story: 10
The story is amazing. You get to follow the lives of Peter, Miles, MJ, and their families as they try to survive a crazy version of Manhattan that's overrun with all sorts of criminals, crazy characters, and classic Spider-Man villains. The story is very well written and it gets incredibly emotional. If the plot of this game was turned into a movie, I would definitely watch it and hope it won all sorts of awards.
Difficulty: 3
The game is really easy. If you are in a battle and you're about to die, it's easy to just swing away. It's also easy to recover health. Many of the missions are also based on just exploring and going through Manhattan to different points instead of difficult combat. There are also puzzles throughout the game, but most of them are pretty easy and some of them also have the option to skip after a while.
Overall: 9.4
Even if you have to pay full price for this game, it's more than worth it because it's so much fun. This is already one of my most favorite PS4 games of all time and easily the best Spider-Man game. The game is fun, the comedy is great, there's so much to do, and then some. The game is only about to be three months old and I'm already both excited and ready for a sequel.
