So let's say I don't have a lot of space left on my PS4 but I still have a bunch of games left to play and have to delete some of the older ones.

Is it just the application that's being deleted and the data is still on the PS4 or if I play the old games again do I have to start from scratch?

If you delete your games from the PS4, I'm very sure that it doesn't delete your save files. If you do it from the Storage in Settings, you can see your save data over there. You can even backup your save onto a USB if you're not feeling fully confident in the process.

Though save data can take quite a bit of space, Final Fantasy 15 takes a whole GB of space for saves. For some odd reason.

Funny story. I deleted one game and a few videos so that I can install Assassins Creed and for some reason EVERYTHING was deleted. All my save files for dozens of games, so now I'm starting my gaming career all over again.
