Currently, a lot of dumb and jokey threads get closed and Trash Can'd.
They don't belong in that area of Vizzed, so out they go.

This is good, except when the community gets to add to the insanity/fun to the thread.
It would take as much or less effort to dump it to, for example, its own corner for the goofing to continue.

Unless you hate fun. I guess thats okay, too.

Kind of depends on the joke, the timing and the place, sometimes also the recurrence. Not always is good to make jokes about certain topics and/or at certain timings, and that's true everywhere in life so it won't be different here. 

We have places for everything, you just have to find them or even maybe revive them. Just like there will always be threads that shouldn't be created and which shouldn't be getting any reply. Whatever is useless will be trashed (again true everywhere in life, more or less), and depending on the situation extra measures will be taken.

There's also one thing you might be ignoring: automatic closing. Threads close automatically after a certain time has passed since the last post, except for sticky threads. Given the current activity, many threads have suffered this fate, whether or not they actually needed to be closed. In those cases, all we have to do is report it to the mods so they re-open it, or we can start it anew indicating in the opening post that the original got closed. As a last resort, we can revise the auto-closing policy, but I doubt it will get changed anytime soon.

Emphasis on the fun part. People posted here because it didn't have mean-spirited or otherwise disrespectful content. That mess is quick to be discussed in often raw but insightful ways, or reported and removed. No changes there.

This is just to bring up the distinction for active silly threads that are needlessly closed and hidden from view into the trash can. If there's life, don't hide the signs. People need to see stuff happen on the site to gain interest.
