Last year, I remembered this special underwear called the Calorie Shaper, a kind of underwear that made the news a few years ago. From what I can tell, it makes burning calories or losing weight more efficient, thanks to some sort of hexagonal coating or resin.

I was wondering, though: Does it really work? I've been starting to get a tiny bit fatter, and I don't feel motivated enough to play dancing games, so I think this Calorie Shaper would be excellent for me.

I would be very skeptical. A lot of these weight loss products are actually scams. I learned that in my Biology classes when I was working on my Bachelors. They are some crazy stuff out there, de-toxing shakes, vest vibrators, weight loss underwear, diet pills, and etc. A lot of these are fakes just to get people to buy them.

If you are wanting to lose weight the best methods are eating right, counting carbs and exercising. Also if you eat like the Old Testament in the Bible describes that has been proven to be effective.

I would honestly say yes it is. They prey on your insecurities and sometimes your laziness, so I really don't recommend you trust them or anything advertising similar things.

LOL; really? A fat-burning underwear? I never heard of it.

I wouldn't use it though since it doesn't beat good ol' fitness.

You can't out-anything (out-run, out-gym, out-"wrap", etc) a bad diet. I know this from desperately trying and failing to make up for my poor eating habits by going to the gym for 2 hours+, 5-6 days a week. It wasn't until I started reducing my sugar intake, and really paying attention to what I ate, that I started noticing a difference.

I mentioned the wrap earlier because that's what this reminded me of - an easy "quick fix" that is marketed to the masses. Everybody wants quick results without the hard work. I'll give it to you straight - if you get any results, it'll be minimal at best, and then plateau. Or, you'll drop weight quick, and then gain it right back (hello Biggest Loser, I'm looking your way).

You mentioned you don't want to play dancing games; if it's a dislike of cardio you have, welcome to the club. I haaate cardio lol. but I love weight lifting, and it's done amazing things for my confidence and just the way I see myself. There is more than one type of exercise - find what works for you. Besides the obvious weight loss, exercise also helps reduce the risk of heart attacks, strokes, etc.

I could see underwear helping you drop weight but not burning actual calories.  Think of high school wrestlers, for example.  They wear rubber suits built to drop water weight.  Rubberized or synthetic underwear that helps you sweat a lot more would technically help you lose weight when you sweat extra-heavy in it.

Of course, if you drink water and rehydrate, you'll put that weight back on again.

It's crazy how seriously people take the actual number on the scale.  Weight isn't the most important measurement of health or fitness.  Heck, it's not even the 15th most important measurement of health and fitness.  It's easy to see the numbers when you get on a scale but there's no one there to really interpret that data.
