Hello Vizzed Users. This is an important message not only for community on this site, but for the internet in general. Donald Trump's newly appointed FCC Chairman, Ajit Pai is about to change the face of the the internet. On December 15, The FCC is planning to eliminate the rules of net neutrality. Now what is net neutrality you might say. It is basically the rules of the internet that all internet service providers must treat the internet equally by not intentionally block, slow down or charge money for specific websites and online content. It also prohibits ISP's from creating premium fast lanes and charge money for specific content on the internet such as social networking, gaming, video and file sharing, and shopping. Here's an example:

https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/4252153/what-is-net-neutrality-isp-package-diagram.0.jpg

Net neutrality is very important especially for small business that rely on these rules. An ISP may charge a fee on a websites or throttle and charge the user to access the a certain site. This would be bad news for Vizzed.com if net neutrality is repealed on December. Vizzed can be legally blocked and ISP's can charge "us" users money to access this site So what can you do to help.

I'm not American, so I'm not hearing about this as openly as most of this community and thus my knowledge is very limited.

I don't think Vizzed will be affected because it's a very small site compared to other places in the internet. An ISP would need to be extremely desperate to charge us money to access this site. Having it blocked, though, could be a real danger for all the issues we've had with the RGR, but that's not different from what Nintendo could have done to us or what other companies can still do.

While I've seen people welcoming the idea of eliminating the neutrality, some sites are heavily against it. It seems that, once again, they're trying to favor the big companies over small businesses with the "excuse" of having the top companies providing a better service due to the extra charges. I'd like to believe that, but whenever I've seen companies monopolizing something due to charges, at least at this side of the Atlantic, it has resulted in a worse service due to not having to worry about competitors.

I can do nothing for this, but I'm really against giving such favors to big companies. I hope this doesn't go through, although if unsuccessful it will probably get delayed until a better time comes when we will have this same discussion.

It is concerning for sure. However, I'm concerned this will eventually lead to the SOPA Bill trying to get passed again.

A few years ago All of the California congress representatives and a few others from different states drafted a bill called the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). This bill had wording in it that anybody who downloaded a game, visited gaming sites, downloaded music, or shared videos could be charged for Piracy. That bill would have shut sites like this one down. Also that Bill gave govt the ability to censor the internet.  Thankfully the bill never passed and was turned down.

So what does that have to do with Net Neutrality. Well from what I have read and understood. If Net Neutrality goes away. Govt and companies will get to decide what is put on the internet. Thus it is a freedom of speech issue. Also it allows internet provides to drive up prices to keep competitors out. Think about if the govt gets to decide what to put on the internet. That could also mean they could decide sites like vizzed, or youtbue are piracy sites so shut them down. Then you have the SOPA becoming into effect without passing congress. It could also mean they get to decide what adds you see, sites you can go too, among other things.

If Net Neutrality goes away it will be a chain reaction.

The removal of Net Neutrality would be a disaster. Knowing me I would build a series of antennas to connect to a McDonalds WI-FI spot by putting them in trees (and solar powered relay spots too), because I am not going to pay $100 per month to visit sites like Google and YouTube. This would spark protests because the internet is the only free thing we have.

Also, Chairman Pai should go and stop himself and others, from thinking up an idea as dumb and flat-out evil as this.

If anybody is interested, a few states have been taking their own measures to help prevent any major issues from occurring. HUZZAH!

Less than 10 days are left before the net neutrality repeal is put into effect. There is no way the states with net neutrality laws are going to be instantly overturned once it does, right?

Well, it's happened. I can't believe it actually did.

What I always loved about the internet is the idea that if you have access to the internet and a browser, you basically have access to a large wild west full of opportunity. You and the queen of England are equal on the internet, if you want. Power and money from the physical world doesn't mean as much on the internet.

Now, with net neutrality gone in the USA, that world will start to crumble. Other people have the right to control what YOU see on the internet. Disgusting.

I've used it a little... I feel weird doing it, like the if my ISP notices I'm encypting my data they'll start getting suspicious. Not that it's illegal.
