Tak 2 - The Staff of Dreams

Tak 2 The Staff of Dreams Review
Tak's back and better than ever in this epic tale of every's favorite juju master Tak! Tak 2 The Staff of Dreams is  easily one of  THQ's more popular  underground games, and while the Tak franchise is well.. dead i'd still recommend giving this cult classic a try(not to mention this is the best game out of the trilogy). Tak 2 the Staff of Dreams builds upon what was previous established in the first game both game mechanics and story wise, and while most people don't even know of this franchise or any background knowledge of it, it's ok because you don't need any prior knowledge of the previous games or the franchise in order to get into Tak 2 The Staff of Dreams story.

The Graphics within Tak 2 The Staff of Dreams are phenomenal given the game was made within the early 2000's . THQ really set the bar high and in my opinion spared no expense to create a vibrant and colorful lively world.  The color scheme within the world just blend well together and really "pop" everything is eye candy and the animation style is cartoonish but crafted in a way that feels like it adds alot of depth to the objects and people. In addition the world within Tak 2 The Staff of Dreams is alive you can clearly see the grass moving in the wind, butterflies and sprit's moving and flying across the screen. The characters all breath and drift back and forth creating a real sense of realism, the water sway's, the bushes bustle everything was created with a sense of realism and vibrant color.

The Sound in Tak 2 the Staff of Dreams is just what you'd come to expect from any gameboy advanced game only more in depth in my opinion. In Tak 2 The Staff of Dreams you can hear the footsteps of Tak moving, you can hear the water when near it , you can hear the change in tempo and overall sound when entering the dream realm, the animals all make there respective noises when you enter act with them or come close to them, my only complaint would be the sound track fr... Castlevania - Dracula X

Castlevania Dracula X (Game Review)
Castlevania Dracula X, well for beginners this is by far the one of if not the best Castlevania game for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. I really enjoyed the simplicity of the game, and how the game is more fast paced and is broken down into stages instead of the usual "open map" castle style we're used to seeing from the Castlevania titles. While I do enjoy the American released version of this game I feel as though I would be doing you an injustice if I fail to mention the Japanese version of the game Castlevania Rondo of Blood because while they are the same game, there is slight variations within the two games( I would recommend the Japanese version over the American released version). I say this because in the Japanese version you can play as either Richter Belmont or Maria Renard(who becomes a playable character after you rescue her) which her attacks are stronger and have more depth to them but she takes alot more damage when hit, but that aside  while in the American version you can only play as Richter. Also In addition in the American version certain aspects of the game are completely cut out like the ability to play as Maria Renard and certain stages are out of order with slight variations to them (like the background and level designs).

The graphics in Castlevania Dracula X are  excellent, and what I was completely expecting from a game from the Super Nintendo Entertainment era. I love the attention to detail within the game from the scenery all the way down to how the world feels alive and how the creatures have the realistic texture and depth to them. My only complaint is how with Richter Belmont his face can't exactly be made out but his clothing and outfit design all are up to par.

The Sound within Castlevania Dracula X is amazing to say the least. The soundtrack really gives you that eerie edgy feeling, almost jump scare like in nature that go hand in hand with the visuals seen within the game. Castlevania Dracul... Read the rest of this Review
X-Men - Reign of Apocalypse

X-Men - Reign of Apocalypse (Review)
Where to begin with X-Men Reign of Apocalypse..well for starters the sound in the game is broken (it doesn't play) and while that didn't really effect me because I threw in my head phones and listened to music while I played, I'm sure the no sound being in the game will affect other gamers and could be a "make or break " decision for some people to give the game a try. With that said X-Men Reign of Apocalypse is still a decent game despite the minor sound issue and I believe fans of the X-Men franchise will still appreciate and  love this mini game side scroller, which does stay true to the comics look and feel.

The Graphics in X-Men Reign of Apocalypse are decent, while they could have been better. One can notice your character sprite does drift/pace back and forth which looks like it's stimulating breathing when standing still, giving that feeling  that they are real and alive. I'm not a huge fan of the background and scenery in X-Men Reign of Apocalypse, while the scenery has that classic X-men feel and obvious design  that drew inspiration from the comics , the background is just a still set low resolution image with no real "life" to them, in fact if you didn't have prior knowledge of the X-Men universe (and the game didn't tell you the location of the stage when it starts) you wouldn't really be able to tell what the scenery you see is supposed to be.  There is one notable detail about the graphics in X-Men Reign of Apocalypse though and that would be the character design/style. With the character design one gets that feeling of nostalgia as the character design really stands out and the characters just "pop" with vibrant colors , they are designed with the classic X-Men suits/clothes and I was clearly able to recognize classic X-Men like Cable, Sabertooth, Gambit etc. in their classic outfit designs.

For the Sound in X-Men Reign of Apocalypse I choose to leave it N/A (non applicable) because it is broken and isn't playin... Read the rest of this Review
Mega Man ZX

Megaman ZX (Review)
Capcom at it's best with it's handling of the Megaman property the company owns, introducing  Megaman ZX. To start this review off I'd like to take the liberty to say that Megaman ZX is by far is one of if not the best spin off series of the Mega man franchise as a whole and a excellent continuation of the Mega man Zero series. With that said Megaman ZX takes place two centuries after the events in the Mega man Zero series and honestly you don't have to go back and play the Mega man Zero series to understand and get into the plot/ story of Megaman ZX. But while you don't have to go back and play the Megaman Zero series to get into the plot/story of Megaman ZX, I'd encourage you to do so not only because the Megaman Zero series is still one of the greatest when it comes to megaman spin off series but also because it would better help you to understand some of the references to previous characters, events  and what some of the materials and individuals in the game are based off of. Megaman ZX also introduced a ton of new features like gender choosing what character you want to be, and the ability to use the GBA slot on the DS to go back and replay boss battles from the Megaman Zero series.

The graphics in Megaman ZX are truly amazing and in some instances breath taking. I loved how the environment around you in the game was designed with feeling and tone/mood in mind. For example it's very tranquil and peaceful when in a natural nature based setting, very detailed and clean cut  and the color design was spot on and everything just popped/stood out( very colorful)  you can tell the art designer took time to create the background designs and did so with the thought of how can I make the art in the game truly feel refreshing and new but stay true to that classic megaman feel and they nailed it. Now in addition Megaman ZX tried something new to the megaman franchise when it comes to cut-scenes for the first time in the franchise you had so... Read the rest of this Review
Star Ocean (English Translation)

Star Ocean Review
Star Ocean.. oh  boy I don't even know where to begin, to put it in a few words Star Ocean is easily one of the best games of it's genre for the SNES(Super Nintendo Entertainment System) and set the standard for RPG's to come . Given the limitations of the SNES, Star Ocean managed to exceed and go beyond what I was expecting from a top down  side scrolling rpg. Star Ocean, being a true pioneer in the genre with features and movement styles Iv'e never seen in a RPG before.

The Graphics in Star Ocean, while looking like what I would compare to as gameboy advanced sprites( about 32 bit sprites) are good and clean cut . The environment/scenery  in Star Ocean is visual stunning with beautiful various locations, in addition the environment is alive and not just still images for example the water at the beaches has tides(it's moving in and out) the grass flows in the breeze, animals such as birds fly around etc.  My only complaint being is during cut scenes there isn't that traditional style animated cut scenes that I've come to expect from Japanese RPG based games.

The Sound and Soundtrack for Star Ocean, well for starters Star Ocean was only released  in Japan (thus explains this English hack) and while the text and written dialog in the game is translated to English(not all of it is translated  but the most essential parts are) that said the Dialog heard in the cut scenes is in Japanese So I give Star Ocean points for voice acting during the cut scenes but it's a shame I don't understand what they are saying. Now the Soundtrack for Star Ocean is decent it could have been better and at times it just felt kinda awkward like the music playing didn't quite match the tone and mood of the scene or action that your doing.

The story of Star Ocean, well for starters there's a lot of subplots and side stories in Star Ocean but the main Story is..in the beginning  you start off in the village of Kratus on a planet c... Read the rest of this Review

Metal Warriors (Guide for beating missions)
This is a complete walkthrough guide of Metal Warriors for the Super Nintendo. In this guide I will be covering how to complete each mission in depth and will provide insight on how to progress thru the game with ease. To begin I'd like to start off with going over the six different types of mech suits you can use in the game as well as their different abilities and strengths and weaknesses. In addition to that you can also get out of your mech suit and control a mini marine that is equipped with a small gun and can fit in smaller places.

Mech Types:Nitro- Simple suit, basic combat capabilities, has the most powerful melee attack weapon, can fly , and has a special drop shield that temporarily blocks enemy attacks, you can shoot in any direction using this suit but you can only shoot straight or at about a 45 degree angle up or down.

Havoc-has jump jets(high jumping capabilities), not flight jets (can't fly or sustain mid air flight), has a chain whip as a melee attack, strongest shield and has the fastest  maneuverability

Prometheus- don't fly or jump, sluggish and slow, but very lethal your walking weapon of mass destruction if used, cannon fires all over the place, the aerial mines float straight up to kill enemies above, also equipt with a  flamethrower that not only melts enemies quickly, it also stuns them so that you will certainly kill one if it gets caught in the flame, shield covers his whole mech suits body

Spider-web attack that blocks shots and stops enemies, invisibility cloak, melee attack is a giant scorpion stinger, really hard to control,When on the wall or ceiling the suits orientation is still from its own cockpit if you try to aim while on the wall or ceiling you need to aim from Spider's point-of-view

Ballistic-can't fire while moving, limited jump, when it's weapons are out it will not move, the plasma gu... Read the rest of this Guide
