If for no other reason than he looks and acts less like a 7 yr. old I pick Shadow for coolness, however, Sonic is faster by claim and often more kind friendly as I've never seen him shoot a gun or heard him cuss in his games. So I guess this would be determined by what age group your asking or if you have small children in the room. But for me it's Shadow.

it's definitively Shadow; he's stronger, cooler, looks cooler, and less annoying than Sonic... AND HE HAS OVERSIZED GUNS!. Even though he's pretty much a darker version of sonic, slower, and cusses. (lol)

That depends on the setting. In a battle, it's Sonic for sure. In terms of modern coolness, Shadow is the definite winner. As for me, I like Sonic more because he's the original awesome hedgehog, setting the standard for future hedgehog characters.

Sonic iz the allrounder but Shadow has those cool boost shoes and his spikes r cooler 2 so really i agree with lots of theother peeps they are both cool so its a hard choice but sorta like Shadow a bit better

If I learned anything from watching the Pokemon first movie it's this. Mewtwo was cloned from Mew. Now Mew is cuter and can learn any TM / HM. Mewtwo is taller and has higher base stats. However, they both reach a stalemate and so no one dies. It doesn't really matter because either way the original and the clone will never die.
