I've heard of this through my Religion class. Here's all of the info (I know it's Wikipedia, but it's accurate):

Basically, this guy, Harold Camping, believes that he has uncovered the date that the world will end. The Rapture (time when all of the non-sinners ascend to Heaven) is set to happen on May 21st of this year. Five months later on October 21st, the end of the world is supposed to occur. I believe he came up with these dates from the marking of the 7,000th anniversary of the Great Flood (remember with Noah?).

Anyway, did anyone hear of this? What do you think? Does this seem plausible?

As with all religion, I will simply say "no".

There have been MANY reported ends of the world, but NONE of them actually happened. If anything, someone's world ended that day, but not a mass ending of worlds.

As there is no way to say that anything in religion is irrefutably true, there is no way to say the same for this.

I am not sure what believers have said regarding if everyone was still here on October 22nd though. But I agree, the track record for the people who have predicted the end of the world but whose time has come and gone, is pretty bad (i.e. their win % is that of the Boston Red Sox as of today April 5, 2011). I kid of course, they'll win one eventually and they'll more than likely make the playoffs so don't you worry!

Even if there is only about a month and a half left for judgment, I'd at least like to be under the false assumption that everything is fine and just live my life like I normally would without thinking about being punished or whatever.

Coincidentally, a comet or celestial body of some sort is supposed to travel past the Earth at the same time (though, the Mayan calendar may end this age on December 21, 2012 because of said celestial body). Keep in mind though that astronomers have estimated that the chances of the comet or whatever impacting the Earth on that date is very slim - something like 100,000 to 1, maybe even less.

Heh, well all I can say is that: I have a certain faith according to what I've read in the Bible in which Jesus states that the Rapture will come at a time at which you will not expect, and thus always look up and be ready. Jesus even goes into the detail in that not even He knows when that day and hour will be, but only His Father (the Father of the Triune God), well I know that this truth is being debated among a lot, but according to my faith--all I can say is wait it out until said date of whatever date anyone is perdicting; then see who's right--them or Jesus .
