ok, you press escape, then click on configure and click input. then select your input device (keyboard is selected by default) and then click on set buttons and popus will apear saying "press the key you would to set for up" for example, it will do this for all the buttons. then press escape again and play

I've had the problem of the cursor freezing in the menu. When I either reset or close and reopen the game it's no longer frozen when I go back to the menu.
