Hi fellow  member I would like to ask what your opinion is on this idea. I live in the U.K which is around 5 to 8 hours in front of members who live in the U.S. My suggestion is to possibly put some kind of icon or abbreviation  in the information when looking at the members page. This is so I can identify other member from the U.K and Europe to add to my friends list because the people will be using vizzed around the same time as myself. And I think this help improve my vizzed gaming by being able to if a lot of the people on friends list live close to myself.

looba : Well, you COULD do that, but it would make the timezone offset in your profile redundant. Zero meaning I'm in the same timezone as the Vizzed server.

That is, if they put in the correct information when they started their account. If they didn't, they could just update their profile.

I agree that it should be somewhat mandatory to specify you time zone. After all, it makes a huge difference when attempting netplay or when you expect someone to be online, not to mention you could actually meet other users that live close to you (I did this last summer, so I know what I'm talking about).

It's a bit troublesome to go through the profile of every user to see if they have a different time zone set. I'm aware some users prefer to hide where are they from, for reasons only they know, but sharing the time zone isn't a real issue, here in Europe many countries share the same time zone so there's no way of actually knowing where is a user from unless you give it half a dozen tries.

I'm in for this idea, but I don't think it will get implemented. However, if David ever goes through his PMs and sees the idea to make a European-based forum we would have a roundabout over your idea without the need to actually change much of the site coding.

Like was said by EX Palen some of us have been pushing for the idea of a European rented forum for hosting netplay events and other things like that, we're really just waiting for David to respond. I'd personally favor that idea over this one simply because it would take less work, with how much stuff he already has planned it might just delay things further.

Like m0ss said you could also just check the timezone offset on someone's profile, that should give you an idea if they're someone who lives close to you.

Well there is a way to set your "location" on your profile as well as what mossberg referenced in the previous post. The problem here is that not everyone on the internet fills this out legitimately.

You could also create a thread asking for people who live in a similar region/timezone to respond so you can add those people to a special friends list (you can create custom ones) where you could easily identify the users you are looking for.

With regards to David creating something special for European users, he might consider it, but he has to know that he's going to get a big jump in site activity from all the work he would put in creating it.

As a side note, he did have a "European" Netplay server, the problem I believe is that it got almost NO USE.
