I would have to go with ghost type because they are pretty strong but do not always have

I voted for two things:

Fire: in the 2nd generation games, Typhlosion was such a beast (I mean, earthquake and thunderpuch? just amazing. The only thing that can beat him is a high defense pure ground type). Plus, fire is just plain awesome

Dark: Darkrai is just epic. He's extremely fast, has the most accurate sleeping move in the game (dark void) and has really high special atk.

I'd say dragon, but the strongest ones seem to have a double weakness to ice, and a lot of pokemon can learn ice beam. so...

The best type would have to be Dragon followed by Steel or Ghost as far as immunity to attacks as well as damage potential.
