So, my wife and I are sitting in bed getting ready to watch the last episode of American Idol (don't judge me ) when we hear a woman across the street screaming histerically. We write it off at first as yet another domestic dispute (we hear them regularly). Well, me being the nosey person that I am I go out on to our balcony to listen in a bit and this is what I can remember hearing:

"Ken is dead. Ken is dead. I don't know, he's just dead. I don't know what to do. Ken is dead."

That, over and over. The woman was obviously on the phone with someone (I think her father based on the bits of conversation I could catch). I grab my cell and call 911. I give them some info and an ambulance and police car show up within about 2 minutes. I figure someone else might have placed the call earlier (someone in her building perhaps). My wife and I watch as the ambulance comes, and then goes.... without Ken. The police are still here. It was a fun night.

Okay, fun is the wrong word. Morbid curiosity might be a better description. I still don't know what happened (I'm hoping the news picks this up at some point... but I doubt it). There are still people outside and the police might be waiting for a hearse to come pick up the body.

I'm still somewhat shocked at what happened. You can't ever really prepare for, or expect something like this to happen. One minute we're sitting around living life all normal and then next we're on the phone with the police trying to tell them as much as possible so they can get out here and find out what's going on. It was crazy.

[edit] it's been about 2 hours since we called the police and someone just arrived to take the body away. Turns out Ken is actually dead. This is the best confirmation I have so far that he's actually dead....

That is rather trippy, geeo. I had something similar happen to me in ninth grade when my neighbor committed suicide and his wife came home and found him. It was a madhouse, and I still remember certain images as clear as if they had happened yesterday. It's something that sticks with you.

I am really curious now to find out what happened to this Ken. There is a story there that needs telling. I must say I am happy that you called the cops, you'd think that would be the first thing she did... *shrug*

I have no idea why he died... I don't know who he was. I heard a woman across the street screaming about it.... so I reacted. I haven't seen any news reports concerning it but I'm not surprised. Unless there was some other crime or incident relating to his death most news stations don't find a story like this news worthy.

I'll find out what I can... but this was mostly one of those "WTF" stories.... I'm still shocked. I didn't stay awake to see them roll the body out of the building.... but it's still sticking with me that someone across the street was laying there dead for a currently unknown reason.

It's sad... If you ever find out how he died, I'm sure we would like to know... but... still, it's very sad. I despise death. (With the exception of some games, of course...)

Yeah. There's nothing like a normal evening shattered by the death of a random person near your residence with hysterical screaming. From the way things are it seems "Ken" committed suicide. I don't suppose you heard anything about a break in within the woman's convo, did you? If not then suicide is the likely cause. Probably pills. From what I gather.

Cyro - that was our guess too, but there is almost no way to know. We figure it was suicide because she kept saying he was dead rather than saying someone killed him.... as in there probably wasn't a struggle etc.

Either way, it sucks.

If he committed suicide, did you know any reason why he would end his life?

it's not the first time someone has died around where I live. There was a gunshot/stabbing incident (only 1 person died but 3 or more were involved) down the street from where I live a couple years ago and I'm sure there are more things like this going on that we just don't hear about because we keep to ourselves


I didn't know this person or have any idea why he died.

I'd be keeping to myself to if that stuff was happening in my neighborhood.

It kind of makes you think. We all could go at any minute. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. There are even lists you can find on the Cracked website of ways that you could die literally at random.

We all have to be prepared. I don't know why it takes an incident like this or WORSE to make people realize that.

That's not good, was he a friend of yours? If so, I'm sorry for your loss. If not, then I hope you can cope with one of your neighbors dying.

seeron - yeah, I'm coping just fine. I had no idea who this guy was. The most shocking thing was the woman screaming. It seemed over-the-top dramatic. Like a really poorly acted movie. Which is why we didn't believe it at first. Until we realized exactly what the woman was saying.

I live on a concrete island of sorts--it's a huge house in the back part of the city. I have a couple neighbors but it's almost always dead silent over here. I mean, there was a car accident a while ago which was the only remotely loud event in this ghost town. Even the traffic is quiet.

Sucks that Ken is dead, even though you had no affiliation with him.

Whoa!!! Well, I can tell that that must've been unexpected, well it's good to see that you've recovered. And yeah, it must be sucky to have a neighbour die, and what's worse you don't know what happened. But yeah, pretty freaky.
