So, a new wrestling promotion was formed in the new year called All Elite Wrestling. It has people like Cody and Brandi Rhodes, the Young Bucks, Christ Jericho and many others already committed to being a part of it.

https://www.cagesideseats.com/2019/1/8/18174481/all-elite-wrestling-roster-talent

This is a full list of people signed.

Cody Rhodes
Brandi Rhodes
The Young Bucks
Hangman Page (Adam Page)
Chris Jericho
PAC (Neville)
Joey Janela
Penelope Ford
MJF
Britt Baker
Christopher Daniels
Frankie Kazarian
Scorpio Sky

The article also mentions that Kenny Omega is likely to sign with them.

If you've been following "indie" wreslitng (anything not WWE seems to be referred to as indie) you should recognize a lot of these names. I imagine this is just the start for them. They have the backing of a billionaire father and son combo. I don't know their details exactly (and whether or not they are actually billionaires) but if they have a significant financial backer and not the peanuts most of the recent wrestling promotions (2000's and onward) have had then this could really take off.

I don't expect, or really want, to see them "take on WWE". We've seen how that goes. However, another alternative (and a seemingly well stocked one) has me interested.

For a second I was like who the heck is Christ Jericho.

I like him and the Rhodes so I might watch here and there. Never heard of the rest though.

Small update to what I knew before....

The financial backer of the promotion is the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars. I had never heard of the guy before because I don't follow the NFL but if you've got the money to own an NFL franchise then you've got the money to run a wrestling promotion.

The other thing I found out from Chris Jericho signing on with AEW is that the promotion has some TV deals in the works. Not sure what the frequency would be like but that is definitely a positive. Means we won't have to wait for big shows like All-in or house shows to see these guys wrestle.

Tony Khan, the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars is the financial backer for the company, but that's not all, he already invested an initial $100 Million dollars into the promotion. Also, since many WWE stars are asking for releases, they aren't being granted due to the fact that they don't want them signing with AEW, since stars like The Revival and Mike and Maria Kanellis have requested release, with Dolph Ziggler having his contract end at the end of January, it's nuts how many people just might be willing to jump ship. In fact, just tonight on Raw, they found Zack Ryder something to do on the roster so he doesn't just up and leave after his contract ends and hops over to AEW, though I hope he still does so.

tyranit : I honestly think that this is really good for WWE long term. This will (hopefully) force them to up their game and open up room on their roster to actually dedicate time to people. Seeing someone one week and then not seeing them for a week or 2 really hurts any chance some of these people have of getting noticed.

Hopefully AEW doesn't make the same mistakes TNA did in trying to compete with WWE directly. They should do their own thing and do it well. Most of the roster is already well known outside of WWE for being great in the ring... now they just need to show that off to the regular WWE fan if they can manage it. And if a few current WWE stars switch to AEW it might pull even more people. Just don't sign too many 40+ year old wrestlers. A handful is fine because you need the experience in the locker room and what not but you can't build it around them only.
