An amazing beginning to the Final Fantasy series.   rb1295
The beginnings of the Final Fantasy game series. Even being the earliest game of the series, they are just as entertaining as others. In Final Fantasy I & II - Dawn of Souls, as the name implies, you can find the first two games of the amazing series of role playing adventure games.
In Final Fantasy I, the graphics for the main characters are all unique and well designed, while some of the background characters have the same designs. When dealing with the monsters, their designs are all unique and well crafted allowing for a player to enjoy the artistic style of the game. Each different backdrop, has its own unique feel and style that help set the mood and draw the player in.
In Final Fantasy II, the graphics are more defined, with the main characters being designed better, but the background characters still have the issue of seeming a lot alike. With this being said, there are still the monster and backdrops to consider. The monsters are all well designed, and in a way artistic. The backdrops are all unique and fitting to each occasion for when they are used, this allows for the player to enjoy the game even more.
The unique sound of Final Fantasy I help set the mood, and draw in the player. With a large variety of background music's, you can find one for every occasion that you might find in the game. With a large variety of sound effects, most would think that some might not fit what they are suppose to be, but that's not the case. All the sound effect seem fit well with what they are suppose to be, allowing even more enjoyment of the game.
Much like with Final Fantasy I, Final Fantasy II has a large variety of background music's that help draw the player in and set the different moods that are found in the game. Along with the background music, there is a large variety of sound effects, which also fit in with the particular settings and / or actions in the game.
With a deep story, good background music, and well designed characters and monsters, it's understandable how one would easily get addicted to Final Fantasy I. While playing, it is easy for a player to find themselves lost in the game and wanting to find out what happens next, or even in just playing. It becomes more addicting the further someone gets in the game.
Final Fantasy II is addicting a much similar manner as Final Fantasy I, but at the same time its also different. When first playing, its starts off as a little harder to become really addicted to it, but once you start going, the game just becomes more and more addicting.
With a deep and original story, someone can easily understand why the Final Fantasy series of game are always considered to be great games. In Final Fantasy I, the story has a very "free" feel to it. The story starts off being a little confusing and unexplained, but before long one will find themselves wanting to find out what's going to happen next. With a satisfying ending, the player only wants to go onto the next game to see what it has in store for them.
The story found in Final Fantasy II differs from that of Final Fantasy I, but is equally enjoyable. Even though the story starts off being very unexplained and somewhat confusing, before long a player will come to understand what happened and what they need to do. As the game progresses, a player starts to get more and more into the story itself and wants to have more of it.
With the stories for both Final Fantasy I and Final Fantasy II being long and full, it becomes difficult for a player to become bored of the story and allows them to come to understand more of what a role playing adventure game can be like.
In Final Fantasy I, there are a few places where a player can easily go to find things to do that aren't part of the story, or the can even just enjoy a while of doing nothing but exploring. With a variety of different ways for a player to explore, the possible things the have to find are rather large. By giving the player a large variety of different things they can do, that are not part of the story, they can find different things to do when they start to get bored, start having difficulties, or just because they enjoy them. This allows the player to feel more relaxed about playing the game.
Final Fantasy II also has a few different things that a player can do, but not quite as many as in Final Fantasy I. The player still has the option to explore when they want, and they still are given different ways to explore, but at the same time, there are not as many different things that a player can do to entertain themselves.
In both Final Fantasy I and Final Fantasy II, the controls are pretty easy to learn and understand. The simple controls of these games makes the game all the more interesting and enjoyable. Though at the same time, in certain parts of the game, it starts to become difficult to complete what you need to. To make up for this, it is possible for the player to go and do other things until they are ready to go on.
With these being the first two game of the Final Fantasy series of game, it's easy for someone to see just why the series has continued for so long, and been so popular. Both Final Fantasy I and Final Fantasy II have a large variety of things to offer to the play, allowing for the games to seem all the more entertaining to the person playing. Both of these games are great examples of what role playing adventure games are capable of, and they are both games that I would and have suggested to people to play before.

Final Fantasy I & II Dawn of Souls Review   DestinyHeroDC
I am first going to start off by saying, this game is actually the first Final Fantasy game I beat. Though it was the the Dawn of Souls version, it was the origins version which was much harder. But I have beaten both the Origins and the Dawn of Souls version. I am also changing the way I do my review to see how it comes out. If it is bad, I will go back to the original. Now without further a do, let us get started.
For a classic Final Fantasy game, you have to admit that the graphics were stepped up massively in this version. Even though it is old and still is 2d, that does not matter. Upgrading is key in the overall score. When I first played it the graphics looked pretty good. It was brighter, had more textures, and the towns looked way more detailed. This truly is one of the biggest factors in making a remake of a game.
The sound in this game could have been better but you have to admit, it is pretty good. Listening to that menu music for the first time put a smile on my face. The fact that they added a different music track for the menu is amazing. The music in town is also very good and you can tell how much better all of the music is. The boss music is much more intense as well. Another sound quality is how good the attacks sound in this version. It actually sounds really good and satisfying when you land a hit.
This game is pretty addicting. I just wanted to throw that out there. In this version there is an extra dungeon in Final Fantasy I, but in order to stand a chance you need to get to the max level, which is not that hard at all. As a matter of fact you level up quickly in this version of the game. Which makes you want to play it even more to get there quickly.
The story could have been better. Even for a 1987 game, the classic had a decent story. The Dawn of Souls version added things to spice up the story, like a intro to the game, better dialogue, and more dialogue at that. Other than that theres not much more to say about the story. Same with Final Fantasy II
The depth in this game for its time in huge. You have a beastiary for both games to fill out, you have the extra dungeon, you have the max level that most players want to get to, new items to collect, and many more things. All in all, this game will make you want to come back for more.
The gameplay is actually your standard rpg experience. You kill monsters to level up. Rest at an inn to restore your HP and MP, use potions to restore HP on the go, and Cottages to restore both HP and MP on the go. Other than that it is pretty standard. When it comes to Final Fantasy II, the leveling system is much different. You get stat increases by playing. There is not Exp, just stat increases. Lets say you get hit and lose 30 out of 40 of your HP. Once the battle is over your HP will increase. I personally think this is cool. But that is just my opinion.
The last category will have to be the difficulty. This game is extremely easy because of the sole fact of how fast you level up. And if you are playing the vizzed version of the game, you can hold down the space bar to speed it up. I do not remember if you can speed the game up on the Game boy Advanced, but you can on vizzed. All in all, this game is pretty easy. Final Fantasy II on the other hand is kind of difficult if you do not keep getting your stats up. Just grind your stats and you will be fine.
Well guys it is at the end of the review so I will give my verdict on the game. My overall is 8.8 Because the remake could have been better. If they had waited a couple years, maybe it would have been, but oh well. It is a very good game overall.

Final Fantasy I & II - Dawn of Souls Review   XxEzraxX
Here is a game that takes you into a whole new world and never lets you out. Final Fantasy, a wonderful game series, this title in particular happens to be a remake of the first two Final Fantasy's. Now when I first played this game I wondered how it worked, because for those who have played the two titles know that they both have different leveling systems. For instance, Final Fantasy I has your standard gain EXP and level up concept while Final Fantasy II gives you a list of skills that depending upon what you do and what you use level up individually. However, turning the game on I came to a menu that actually let me have a choice on which one I wanted to play. My initial thought, "this is pretty freakin' sweet!"
So since that is how the game is set up, I will review both games individually within one review. I think it will makes things a little more clear for the readers and will help decide which game the reader would be more interested in. I rated the whole game a 9.5, I thought it was pretty cool that both games were featured in as separate titles instead of put into one. Personally I played the Final Fantasy I first so that is where I will begin.
Final Fantasy I is a role playing game, at the start you choose what kind of character you wish your party to have. Example: warrior, white mage, red mage, black mage and thief etc. Once you have chosen your party you then proceed to name them, and if you feel uncreative at this point there is an auto name feature which I find pretty handy. Once you are thrown in the world then all you must do is defeat the first boss, and help the rest of the world save their crystals going from town to town. Some may be unsuccessful in the beginning, but later in the path all will be right with the world and you will save all of the crystals being the warriors of light that you are. As said in the legend spoken to you in the beginning of the game. That is pretty much the simple run of Final Fantasy I.
Final Fantasy II is one of the only titles in Final Fantasy that I can think of (or have ever played) that can possibly be a squeal to Final Fantasy. It is pretty much the same concept you must go from town to town and help save the world by defending the crystal that a few towns acquire. However, there are some differences with the two titles. For instance, like mentioned before the leveling system is different and the characters are not the warriors of light.
If these games were the original copies for the NES then I would rate them about a 7 for graphics because of how unadvanced technology was at that time, it was nice to look at but it wasn't exactly a definable looking game. However, since this is a remake and the graphics have improved for both games drastically I rate the graphics and sound a 9. These games where very beautiful to look at and the sound quality was a lot better than the 8-bit sound of the older games (granted I love the 8-bit sound), with its updated tiles and sprites even the monsters look more clear and defined.
As for the addictiveness an 8, two really good games with story lines that are easy to follow and really quite interesting once you really get into the game. I pick this game up and play for hours, the only times I ever really put it down is when I have to do some serious level grinding but I think this is more of a personal issue really, because I just get kind of tired of fighting the same monsters over and over again. Not to mention how many times you will encounter a random battle, it happens just about everywhere except in towns of course. Story I rated an 8, they where both very interesting and I think very well thought out. Although Final Fantasy II may have been a bit of a copy of Final Fantasy I, it had it's own set of differences and was really interesting.
For the depth and difficulty I rated them both a 7, the games are both quite long and have many hidden items and things of the sort. I still haven't found everything in the game, and I have been playing Final Fantasy since I was about seven. Also this game can get really challenging, enough random battle encounters and you will suddenly have fallen party members or at some point you will encounter an extremely hard boss that won't be defeated unless you level grind like crazy. But the games are not impossible, in fact if it wasn't for things that I just mentioned it wouldn't be hard at all.
Over all Final Fantasy I & II Dawn of Souls is a wonderful remake of two iconic games rolled into one. I suggest them to any fan of the franchise or anyone that is into RPG's. They have wonderful story lines, and the graphics for these remakes will not bore you or turn you off from the game. Also, I know at some point it will more than likely be asked which title do I prefer to play? The first one, I enjoyed the game a lot especially when I took my first run through it. With the second one I liked it almost as much if it wasn't for the skills leveling system, it just generally confuses me and at times I have a hard time deciding which skill I want to level up for each character. Anyway, I hope that this review has inspired you to pick up this game and give it a shot, I hope for those who have not played it that you enjoy the games and have an amazing adventure.

Great Games!   jayron122
Both Final Fantasy 1 and 2 are both amazing.  I played both of them on the Game boy and the play station and the psp, and now on the computer and it's still amazing.  I recommend this game to everyone in the world who goes on this website.  I love the second one better to be truthful the story makes more sense in my opinion.  But final fantasy 1 is still good like the music and the characters you get to chose and the dungeons you go in are all fun and amazing.  I hope this is useful information for people who read this.

DAWN OF SOULS   Aceo47
It would be best that you have your people upgraded before you face the last two Fiends. First, you need the rat's tail. Next, the airship. Finally, find Bahamut among the small islands and show him the tail. This is one of the few Final Fantasy games that awesome gameplay and music. The first Final Fantasy game that got me hooked was actually Final Fantasy X. I love Final Fantasy I-II Dawn of Souls! Note: Astos and Garland are the easy ones, all the rest you're gonna need to train a little in order to not get beaten down like a noob. Shinryu and Omega can be found in the Lifespring Grove. Train and be highly prepared if you want to beat them. I would suggest being between lvls 80-99. Other than that, enjoy the game!

Final Fantasy   randanicole
I played this game when I was a little kid on long car rides on my game boy advance and when I saw it on the list of retro games on the site I rented it instantly. It was one of the first games that turned me onto the RPG style gaming and now that is when I log most of my gaming hours. Obviously full of nostalgia for me, it is a no-brainer that I consider it so high and recommend it to everyone. It's easy to get the hang of and the story line is interesting and will keep you playing until the end. This game was so revolutionary for it's time most RPG games made today are modeled in the likeness of what Final Fantasy started. I hope everyone tries out this game and loves it as much as I did every time I played it.

Final Fantasy 1 & 2 Dawn of Souls (DoS)   Kyle!
OK, you've sat down as a child (Some of you though) and played what is like the Xbox 360, or PS3- The NES.... Those who enjoyed Final Fantasy on the NES will love this 'remake' (Actually two remakes, with two games in one) of their beloved Final Fantasy, or Final Fantasy II. As ironic as it is this classic that started on the a great series of RPGs starting on the NES, was made by "Square' (The creator of the Dragon Warrior series, which as a matter of fact also has a review by me) was a 'last resort,' or 'last time to shine.' Because at the time (From my research on the company on the 'We may all lose our jobs, or keep them' scenario) 'Square' went bankrupt and had enough to make only one game; Final Fantasy. Planned as a last release from the company, it soon brought them to getting 'back on the top' and started a series that is now ruining 'Square's' reputation twenty five years later ( Released in December eighth, nineteen eighty seven) . This remake also contains a 'added bonus' of Final Fantasy II (Roman numerals rule in case your wondering!) was pleasing for many who would get bored of Final Fantasy I (One, not i) . The replay value would be extremely high sense it has more ways to replay (The job system differs from Final Fantasy V's job system still) due to the fact that in the game your characters don't talk, you chose the classes you want name them and start the prologue of the game. Over all a great game, has fun ways to level up and still keeps 'YOU' in charge of the game play and how you want to do/ go during the game... Sadly for all of you Final Fantasy II fans, I will not be doing a review for it because I'm still playing it and learning the story line which can or cannot be easy to follow.
Enjoy!!! Kyle Parker Griffith!

most strategical exp gain system of ff ive played   heartofwrath
this game and 3rd one for snes are definitely my favorite of the series although third one has most compelling storyline of all id say this one has the most strategical and complex experience and skill gain system of the older FF titles it also allows you to explore far beyond your ability level which adds dangerous element to field travel and if done right you can aquire advance exp, weapons, armor, majic, and items that can give you an advantage if you want it this can be hard to do though and it can also spoil game if overdone so expiriment wisely altogether a really fun game though if you like older Final Fantasy games I know i do!

The Best Final Fantasy game on the Game Boy!   Agro
I had always loved this game. I Had this game on the game boy , but I lost it, and when I found this game here, I was overjoyed. This game is just so amazing, it has a very good story that has matched the flow of the game from start to finish. True, I did get lost early in the game, but other than that the game was able to give me general directions while still giving me the opportunity to explore the land. They even put cities and towns in out of the way places that offer people great weapons, armor, and spells that you could own the opponents and still give you the opportunity to level up. The creator even gave you a post game after you beat the second game that is able to tiresome of the knots that you might get when playing FF2. I would suggest that if you can get it, get this game. If you are one of those people like me that would just kill to have and play more games like that, then it will be worth every single second that you play it.

Okay this is for another final fantasy go team let's go
Graphics number 9 the graphics were really good I enjoyed the new character designs they made for the classes the first final fantasy for gba deserves some graphical credit right. Well the graphics really have changed since its old version.
Sound 9 the sounding has its own changes I really like the musical changes which really cool I hope you liked the new music there are like remixes of old version.
Addictiveness 8 how many times this would be played by me yep I would play this game over and over to get different outcomes.
Story 9 they story starts with a legend about four great heroes of light that all posses a crystal containing the elements of fire, water, air, and earth. You choose who you want on your team start on you journey go into the castle talking to the king then go to the other the castle on the top of the island and defeat garland and save princess Sarah and bring her back to the king then go to the bridge and the legend will appear for a few minutes and then leave to the next island go to the right and find the bottom fight the pirates and gain access to the ship. no more story.
Depth 8 the depth of the game is nice a good plot and storyline go with it. four heroes meet and stop darkness from spreading throughout the world.
Difficulty 8 the game does get really hard if you're not a high or specified level because the monsters will troll you if you don't level up a bunch

My first RPG   hyperflareman12
Whats up guys. Hyperflareman12 here. For my first RPG game.Let us start with Final Fantasy I. A game about 4 warriors with 4 crystals that once shined light upon the world, now turned cold and lifeless. You could make your own team. There is a Warrior/Knight,Thief/Ninja,Red Mage/ Red Wizard, White and Black Mage/Wizard, and a Monk/Master.The reason why I'm writing like this is there is a class upgrade later in the game. The first task is the king of Conrian ask you to save his daughter from the evil knight, Garland. There is a plot twist at the end of the game this has him involved. After you beat Garland go doing crazy side quests. After you help the dwarfs, the real plot starts to move on. Now you have to fight four fiends to restore the crystals.Now.... on to Final Fantasy II. Final Fantasy II is a stat growing game, not level based. You can be what ever you what. A mage, a warrior, even a mage warrior. You play as four youths whose kingdom is destroyed by an evil empire. Star Wars, anyone?Anyway, you are found by the Rebellion and aid them to stop the empire. That is the story of FF II.If you are used to the game play of FF I. Oh Boy... The game can be a jerk some times. As long as you have a strategy , your OK. Thats it for Dawn of Souls. See you guys next time.

Final Fantasy I&II: Dawn of Souls   Megagamer42
Overall: This game is what it is. It is a remake of Final Fantasy I (Nintendo Entertainment System), and Final Fantasy II (PS1). The story is the same, and almost everything is improved.
Graphics: Decent graphics, reminiscent of the originals, upgraded to be on par with other games on the  Game Boy Advance.
Sound: The music is good, classic Final Fantasy fare.
Addictiveness: In this game, the story is what keeps me coming back. More on that later.
Story: Now is later. The story, at least for II, is amazing. I has a story, but it isn't as in-depth as II.
Depth: This game world is large, and has very much to do. There is a secret in both games that requires a set of button presses, and it unlocks a mini game for fun and prophet.
Difficulty: These games are difficult if you don't take the time to grind for Experience and Gil. These games are designed to require that to pad the game length. The mini game i mentioned earlier makes the game much less difficult, as it affords an infinite supply of items based on your performance.

from nes to the gameboy   joey9900
Well here's my review for final fantasy 1 and 2 I give this a 9 overall for playability and graphics cause if you play the nes version you'll see a big difference. Be it that it was nintendos first shot at a rpg in 1980 this is way better graphics and not as blotchy and the character's seem to be more aviable as in the monk wasn't aviable in the nes version and I believe the thief wasn't either. Sound is a whole lot better you don't have the same boring song through out the whole game it's a little more up beat cheesy but up beat it's Nintendo people what you expect. Addictiveness I rated high cause who doesn't play ff for hours on end. Story line follows the nes ff but... with some new features I won't give those away depth is insane the game is so big both of them are you can play for months and months and not beat either ff or ff2. Difficulty I gave a 7 cause it takes forever to beat either game. Happy gaming.

Do extra damage (FFII)

To do extra damage, take any damage doing spell(such as Fire, Ice or Holy)
Now go into a fight with only one monster and when your aiming your spell hit up to target every monster (even though there's just one) and attack. you do 1.5 more damage then if you attacked with it aimed only for the solo monster, because the way this damage is done is (Spell damage)x 1.5/ by the number of monsters

You still get the 1.5 boast to the spell, but it is divided by 1, thus not lowering its damage compared to if there were 2 monsters.

Pattern of toad spell game- best weapons and armor

Okay, once you get the toad spell to level 16, get on the snowship, then hold A and press the B button 22 times. The secret minigame will then pop up. Play the first one, but don't worry about winning. After you uncover all the toad squares, write the pattern down. Some look a lot alike, so be careful. After that, start a game and give up 31 times without playing. On the 32nd time, it will be the same exact pattern as the one you wrote down. You can now get the best sword and armor in the game.

Anyway this is amazing. Way better than nes verison. What im happy about is that the battle and text is fast. On the nes verison of final fantasy, you had to wait 5 seconds for (Your name) Hit The monster for (whatever) damage!
Awegamer 04-12-13 - 09:09 AM

Crona_1: I recommend trying a different browser while playing. Vizzed recommends Internet Explorer. Or Firefox.
