The poem's themes and plot are poignant. Well done on that. It was a great read. Now for some critique!

I feel the frequent periods cause significant breaks where a comma would be fine. Also, while the rhyme scheme is intriguing, the rhythm is broken in spots. That, combined with the breaks given by the periods, can make the poem seem to "stutter" as it is spoken. Maybe that's what you were going for, I don't know. But it's good to notice, even if it isn't a problem to be solved.

Some of the English, too, is a bit odd. For example, "With cliffs so high you have never seen." might be better phrased, "With cliff so high, the tops unseen". Also, this phrase:

One day she quit her singing.
Watching what the horizon was bringing.
and let the silence, stinging-
stinging through the air.

Let the silence do what? It seems you mean "sting", but the phrase breaks off before you say that and the point is made separately, as if it were another thought.

One last point: Reused rhymes. While this isn't a problem, per se, it can cause the reader to do a double-take and reread, to see if they are reading the same thing over again, even if it is not the same. It, together with the breaks and the like, can cause the reader to lose interest not because they are bored, but because of frustration.

I hope this helps. Thanks for sharing your poem with us!!!

I like Pepsi more, but if I'm going for a cola and have the choice, it's generally Dr. Pepper.

Fablehaven is a series I continue to revisit from time to time. Maybe Harry Potter? And The Hunger Games.

I mostly read series I haven't read before. But I do reread some stuff.

iirc Matthew Taranto (of Brawl in the Family fame) is the one who did the art on this game.

hojumogote : My experience is very limited, and so is my knowledge. I had to do research to learn and remember answer your question. I have played maybe few games in the genre outside of the Fire Emblem and Advance Wars series, and some on PC. I’m not sure I know many games here that would qualify. I do think Shining Force is on here, and its sequel is quite good. I’ve never played IIi, though, so I can’t say I know how good it is. I suggest checking them out on Steam. I have it DRM-free (from Amazon, I dunno if it’s still offered that way), but the emulation of the games is quite good there, and the price was reasonable (I got 48 games for less than $10). I don’t know the current state of the game room here (It’s been so long since I’ve used it), but it generally worked well, with some issues, and no serious issues for most games. I suppose I ought to get to know it better.

hojumogote : Howdy! And welcome! I looked up the game, and the games that most readily come to mind are Civilization, Europa Universalis, and the like. EDIT: I looked more into it and it looks like it is more like Fire Emblem or Advance Wars for the GBA/DS/etc.

What sort of games do you usually play?

I won a Steam Link in a giveaway so I am going to take advantage and play Steam on a big screen for the first time in a while. Our living situation involves a machine plugged into the modem (our gaming PC) and a TV we use for my brother's schooling/a PC not devoted to gaming.

I'm excited now, as I can stream any Steam game the PC can handle to the big screen. I'm hyped!

It's not the first time New York has been attacked by aliens. There was that Chitauri invasion and that metal octopus, amongst other things. This one seems rather...mild.

Huh.

If you have Twitch and are able to download the client and play games on your PC, you are eligible for this giveaway. I'm giving away two games: Hacknet and Smoke and Sacrifice. Will be giving both to one person, unless that person owns one game or the other on Steam.

To enter, tell me your favorite niche, family-friendly video game. Something perhaps that I haven't heard of (I know a lot about gaming so it's likely I've heard of it), but definitely something you enjoyed that you think I would enjoy (or my younger brother) if we got a chance to play it.

Contest ends the end of the 31st, which is the last day I have to give away these games.

My vote is for Minuano. I don’t want to go into all my reasons, but I trust him and believe he would do the best job of the three. I’m not voting for someone else because Light Knight has so much support already.

I"m not big on new music either. There are a few jams that have stuck with me. "Happy" and "Geronimo" to name a few, but so many others just seem so...unenjoyable. I love a wide variety of music, but about the wildest I get is "Bohemian Rhapsody", which to be fair, is pretty insane. But it's also older music.

Gandalf attends the wedding of a friend:

His friend walks up to him and says: “Thanks for the ring, Gandalf. I know she’ll love it.”
“No problem, bruh.”, Gandalf replies. The minister prepares to wed the couple…
Gandalf yawns and briefly closes his eyes. Suddenly, he notices that the bride has disappeared. Gandalf gasps and wonders: “What ring did I give Frodo? I hope it wasn’t my grandmother’s ring...”

Gandalf shows up to work:

“You’re late, Gandalf.”, his employer states.
“Late? I’m never late. A Wizard arrives precisely when he means to.”
“So you’re saying you meant to skip the meeting?”
“Erm, uh...YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!” Gandalf slams his staff into the ground. His employer ignores him and walks by.
“You’re fired," he hears.
“I thought I killed the Balrog,” Gandalf notes.

Gandalf dyes his hair:

“Um...Gandalf? Your hair is...different.”
“You may call me Gandalf the Red.” Whispers: “Thank you, Just for Men.”

Gandalf at the forming of the Fellowship:

Legolas: “You have my bow.”
Gimli: “And my axe!”
Gandalf: “And Boromir’s credit card! Don’t worry, he won’t be needing it soon.”

Gandalf after watching Frodo die:

Pippin trips and sticks out his foot while the fellowship hangs out above a ledge. Frodo trips on the foot and off the ledge. He moans: “Oh no, I’ve killed Frodo!!!”
Gandalf replies: “Fool of a Took!”
“I’m sorry.”
“Sorry for tripping him? You’re a fool, but not for that. I’ve been wanting to get rid of him since this journey began! He was annoying. Now, you can go get the ring.”
“I don’t want to.”
“OK, you can get it, Merry.”
“Uh uh.”
“Anyone? Anyone?” Nobody takes him up on it. He sighs. “That was my grandmother’s ring.”
“Your grandmother was Sauron?”
“.......Yeeessssss......"

Gandalf on frequent flyer miles:

“Do you know why I don’t send the eagles to Mordor? Even though it probably would be simpler than an epic journey?”
Boromir comments: “No, Gandalf, why?”
“Because it’s so dadgum expensive! Do you know how much they charge?”
Aragorn notes: “Actually, I have enough frequent flyer miles to carry us from here to Mordor.”
“You can afford that?” Brief pause. “Fly, you fools!”

I can't seem to check out with my prepaid card + Steam balance. I have more than enough (barely). I'm going to try to top off my balance with just enough using trading cards. I've got to earn them first, so I may not be able to get you the game until sometime later today (tomorrow possibly where you are). We'll see.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
