I have heard people already wondering about the gen V games through different places on the web, and was wondering two things. 1. what system would they be for and 2. how long would we have to wait for that system because as far as i know 2 gens have never been on the same system, so i decided to ask you all what you thought. even tho i don't think it will be this way i put the ds as an option. i personally believe it will be for the dsi ( especially since the new dsi xl is coming out soon.).

I put DSi, because even though I think they will be playable on the DS and DS Lite, I think they'll be DSi enhanced cartridges, like if you play them on the DS, you get the main experience, but if you play them on the DSi, you'll get extra features, like maybe using the camera to insert yourself into a picture of your team and then saving those to the internal memory or an SD card. They'll of course be able to connect to the internet with even advanced connections since they'll be released after the DSi. I also think that they will be able to connect to Gen. IV games in a way similar to the Time Capsule, rather than Pal Park. What I mean is, that you can actually trade back and forth due to the fact that they will both be on DS, but you can't do so if Gen V only Pokemon are in your party. And technically, G/S were still on the same system as R/B/Y, even though their focus was GBC. But since Crystal was GBC exclusive, Gen II was really GBC.

EDIT: forgot one thing. They definitely won't be on any other system, unless Nintendo is planning on surprising us with a new one (which would be a big mistake in my opinion) and having those as launch games, because they are promised to come out (at least in Japan) by the end of the year.

I chose other more so on personal reasons rather than statistic. I do see the pokemon games coming out for the DSi but I think they'll expand more and actually put them onto some consoles instead of handhelds. In my opinion, the only way the pokemon franchise can expand more is if they make more 3-dimensional console games instead of the N64 ones and the one for Wii. (I think it was Wii)

i think it should be on the ds and gameboy advance bcuz theres ppl out there that dont have a ds and only have a advance and vise versa

Both I would think. Because if a DS game plays on the DSi then it will also play on the original DS.

Not all of them will. There aren't any yet, but if you look up the DSi and start reading up on it, Nintendo's planning on having some special DSi only cards... I assume, upon trying to play them in a normal DS (they'd of course already have a note on the package), you would get an error message to the effect of: "Sorry, but due to features implemented in this game, it can only be played on the Nintendo DSi. If you do not have one, you may return this game for a full refund (like that would ever actually happen ). Or, you can just upgrade (Nintendo's cheap marketing ploy: make you upgrade just to play all of the best games) to the Nintendo DSi!"

That would be complete fail on the part of Nintendo... I wouldn't pay the £150 required for a DSi because I still like playing my GBA games on my DS.

Ds and Dsi would make the most sense because a lot more people are getting a DS system anymore it be more sensible to have that system play the gen V games.

They SAID DS in the announcement, and Nintendo doesn't make DSI only games.

well i hadn't heard they said that but just cus they said tht doesn't its true. and as for dsi only games i beleive nintendo has said they were working on it i mean look at the dsiware warioware it uses ds i camera and is downloadable to dsi systems.

Like I said, Mattman, they don't have them yet, but if you read up, you'll find stuff saying they're working on them... they just aren't out yet.

But it would make sense for them to be the breakout DSi enhanced carts (unless some others come out first) where you get extra features on the DSi. It would be kind of like how G/S could play on GB, but had better color when used on GBC. Anyways, it would make sense BECAUSE : While they are trying to push people to get the DSi, they are still making DS Lites. So, it makes sense, kind of like what they did in Gen II. And if they follow that pattern, then the third version will be DSi exclusive but will still have the same connectivity features of the first two. You get what I'm saying?

Yes, but in the origanal, official announcement they said it would be for the DS. It might have a good ammount of new stuff for the DSI or DS2 exclusive users, but it would be playable. I consider GS to be gameboy games, and not GBC games, even though it was better on the GBC (AND YOU COULDN'T USE MYSTERY GIFT ON THE GBA! ARGH!)

so i guess you were right YAY!. now i don't have to buy a new system to play gen V. however I'd also like to point this out http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Future_generations_of_Pok%C3%A9mon#Speculation_against_future_generations part of this article talks about how people think Gen V will be the last one. I personally think that as long as it makes money there will be more pokemon game. what do you guys think?

Yes, that's what I'm saying. But did they make an announcement saying that about the third version? No. So, that's still up in the air, and as the third version is probably a good 2-3 years away, there's a possibility.

I think Gen V would be a good place to stop, they're losing their creativity. But I don't think they will. People will buy them, and then when the next handheld system comes out, people will want Diamond, Pearl and Platinum remakes. Hopefully, though, the creativity will pick up or the series will get the axe. I hate seeing them do this to my former favorite video game series. But, things are starting to look up if all the others are as cool as Zoroark (gonna be on my team).

I vote for DSI. The Pokemon Company has always been more into hand-held devices, and since this is the newest one, they'd definitely go for it.

LOSING THEIR CREATIVITY? I'm sorry, but Grimer, Geodude, and Gastly are HORRIDLY uncreative. Wheras Probopass is abstractly (but still awesomely) designed, and it is very creative.

Aargh, Mattman, you are getting VERY annoying! Probopass is not cool! Gastly is creative! Think for a moment: When they invented Probopass, how many other rock-based Pokemon did they already have? Seriously, the rock types could be a little more creative than that. Geodude was creative because it was original. The biggest charm of the original Pokemon was just that: their originality! Gastly remains unique to this day. Your "creativity" is simply their appearance. Something can look good and not be creative in the least bit. What we want is more originality! Stop nearly duplicating Pokemon!

And I never said they will stop, I said they should stop.

I personally belive that the next generation of pokemon will come out for the DSi (unless they come out with a newer version of the dsi)
