This is Shovel Knight's prequel. It may seem just like an ordinary dlc where its just a different character nothing happened at all to the plot however that is wrong. This was a dlc on steam but now it is a standalone game. Shovel Knight has been completely revamped and changed. Now it even has a PS4 port and a darker story. It is on Specter Knight who has to recruit the Order of No Quarter to become alive again and was given this task by the enchantress. Now he has to recruit them while being an undead husk in armor. The game is changed like how Shovel Knight acts Scrooge McDuck, Specter Knight instead has a homing attack like Sonic the Hedgehog. The game is built around this so its not too easy. In this campaign, you're the bad guy and it explains a lot of events Shovel Knight went through. You will encounter new and familiar faces you've met before on Shovel Knights journey however everyone has a lot more character. The games bosses are good guys you recruited and turned into bad guys except for others but I'm not spoiling. Now you will have a hard time at first adjusting to the mechanics, trust me I did because I was used to Shovel Knight, not this guy. This is also a masterpiece in the modern world as and 8-bit game, almost like a Renaissance! It is the Renaissance of gaming as the 8-bit era is back again. There is not tutorial are anything other then telling you buttons, but not how to use them. If you liked digging, using a shovel like a pogo, and jumping about using magical weapons and such, get ready for dashing, slashing, grinding, and magical fun in a dark story but not too over the top that reveals other characters secret motives. You should as if you enjoyed the original campaign, you will love Specter of Torment. You will meet iconic characters in the best game ever made. The game is more difficult as it expects you to know the mechanics of Shovel Knight, as Specter Knight does mostly some of the old mechanics. Play the original first to get the hang of the mechanics. Then play this game as enemies are bosses now have different strategies even when they are on the good side. It even has some post game content to keep you busy and replay ability and challenges to keep the fun going! I rate this game 10/10.
