Initially the thread was about a suspected commander who had been in hiding, which the post was based, not a young soldier (as you have explained).

Above all, a peaceful resolution is desired the world over, so forgiveness is not the issue.
The issue is freedom of the people, which is taken away by propaganda and military force, then and now.

I really don't see the point in tracking this person down after such a long time has passed. I'd like to believe that he wanted to leave the whole "Nazi" thing behind, considering the fact that it took this long to find him and link him to his past actions, although it can't be verified. His crimes, however, are very great, now that he's been linked to them. Imprisoning him now probably won't mean much to him, but I guess it could send a message that behavior like this is never tolerated and will never be forgotten...It's hard to imprison an elderly man for crimes committed 70 years ago, no matter how you spin it.
