To begin this review, I proclaim that this Sonic hack is not beginners luck and some of the challenges are very difficult. Although not unique to modern video games where instead of clearing a level from start to finish, the player has to complete challenges within a certain time or amount of this and that or save the princess and etc., having a "Challenge" edition of Sonic 3&K adds some variety to this excellent Sega Genesis classic. The first challenge is time attack, which may appear daunting at first but the easiest to accomplish in my opinion.

Other challenges include "sidekick" where Tails must follow a computerized track of Sonic, "gravitation" where like the mechanics to Death Egg II, jumping can make Sonic go upside down and back the other way. And my personal favorite where Knuckles has to defeat enough enemies in a stage, under a certain amount of time before meeting up with the Doctor. On my first attempt of this game, I gave up after completing six of them, understandably a lot of time goes down the drain from losing a challenge after 7 or 8 minutes had passed and either the time ran out or I lost too many rings or overwhelmed by a group of ghosts because the "switches" were taken out of the Pyramid.

For an expert Sonic gamer like me, it would take about 4-5 hours to clear all the challenges without save states, remember that is a prediction and could not be accurate as I haven't fully completed the challenges yet. Here's some advice if you haven't clicked the play button yet: familiarize yourself with the original Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles games and look for shortcuts for Tails and Knuckles. Keep an eye on the time as many of the challenges are based on speed. One dilemma I faced was getting to the boss after switching between Sonic & Knuckles through Icecap and with two seconds to spare only took a few jumps before "TIME OUT" appeared on the screen. Follow this advice and you may beat my record of six challenges (there are more than 24 in total). Good luck everyone!

Ah, I found your new review.

It's defenitely a step up from your last one, and I can easily see the improvements you have made. As time goes on, you'll find yourself getting better and better, and that time will come even faster with tips, so here are some tips to help you get better.

You know when you review you see those little categories that you give scores to, like Graphics? Try talking about the graphics and why you gave the graphics that score. I think a great example would be to look at some of my reviews to give you a better idea of what I mean.

You don't have to, though, it's just a suggestion. Looking forward to how you improve with your next review!

Nice review here. This makes me to remember I didn't really enjoy the game as I did with the first two sonic games.I didn't actually know why, but my brother loved it regardless. I don't think I would really go back to play it again....

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't include much on graphics as they are identical to the original games... Excellent 16-bit pixels and colors with a 90's console that could take on the super-fast speed of Sonic the Hedgehog and the backgrounds and texture were ahead of its time!
