Surgiac : I wouldn't read too much into that, all the professors had different name meanings in japanese to their english counterparts.

Professor Oak was called Dr. Ôkido
Professor Birch was called Dr. Odamaki
Professor Elm was called Dr. Utsugi
Professor Rowan was called Dr. Nanakamado

As I see it none of those names are types of insect or types of tree, so all bets are still on that our dear Professor Araragi will be named after a tree
