First anime I watched was pokemon. However, I didn't even know what anime was at the time so I can't say it introduced me to it.

What probably got me interested in anime was Fairy Tail. First heard some OST from it and thought it sounded great, so I looked it up and ended up watching an episode of it.

Never been too into anime (prefer manga) but I still watch one every now and then.
First anime I watched was pokemon. However, I didn't even know what anime was at the time so I can't say it introduced me to it.

I started watching Fairy tail which led to Sword Art Online... that is the first anime I really enjoyed which lured me into a whole new world... a world of anime.

I don't really know/remember the name of my gateway anime. oO;; I was so young when I watched it that I don't even remember any of the dialogue (I'm not sure I was able to speak yet). XD In any case, I do remember what the art looked like (yep, I'm very visual), so I'm hoping to be able to find it again someday. The story had something to do with a girl sacrificing herself to save a city from destruction.

As for other anime series that I watched much later (because there was a period of  time when I didn't watch anime at all)... I came across Neon Genesis Evangelion one day thanks to someone that was trying to draw using that art style, and also Tenchi Muyo! (although I didn't finish this one until years later).

As for Black Butler, that's a nice choice.

My gateway animes were Pokemon and Naruto. For as long as I can remember, I was a huge fan of both Pokemon and Naruto. Pokemon first, however.

For me, Pokemon represented my childhood, and I consumed all the products. I played the games when they came out, imported a copy of gold to play the 2nd gen games early, and ultimately, just fell in love with anime through Pokemon.

As I got older, anime was less important to me, obviously, and I never watched another anime other than Pokemon.

That kind of changed with Naruto, when I realized anime was an actual genre that existed. I watched it every week, and even got into Manga through Naruto (the story in the manga was far more advanced, and thus, more complete).

So both qualify, I believe.

Mine is Naruto and One Piece, those two were aired in my local television. I didn't know what's 'anime' back in the day, but I really like those two shows and start researching more about it when i have a mobile phone, and voila, i know anime that way. But nowadays tho, I don't watch naruto since the huge filler episode era, and one piece is still one of my favorite anime till now, i hope one piece will never end

Mine was probably Dragonball Z (like most people) and Outlaw Star. I think also a movie called Ninja Scroll was involved as well. (Warning:that is NSFW.) I also blame Toonami Midnight Run for showing me other animes. This is back before that channel turned into a huge cesspool.
