ok no gameboy advance games work on the emulator. they load up and come on but then none of the buttons work. Advice?

As I said then, which GBA emulator, there are 2 or 3.
I recommend VisualBoyAdvance 1.7.2 it works alot better then Boycott Advance and supports GBA/GBC/GB.

If the buttons are not working, what are you using to play the game, a controller or your keyboard?
If a controller make sure to plug it in before starting the emulator.
Start the emu then go into the control options and set the buttons to whatever you want to, then load your game.

I recommend 7zip, it's free, can extract pretty much anything and has been tested by download.com (a leading site in software downloads and reviews) so it's trustworthy.
The url is http://www.7-zip.org/
Just pick the version that matches your operating system type, download and install.
Then whenever you need to extract an archive you can just right click and select extract from the 7zip menu.
