What I mean is, a phone that you actually use, up until you either throw it out, sell it or upgrade it, not just have it or anything like that.

I have only had 2 phones in my life that were really mine, and I have had both for about 15 months. First I had a Lumia 520 and now I have a 635 and im thinking of upgrading it. Not because there's anything wrong with the phone though, in fact I still have the 520 and it still works but the thing on the back of the power button that sticks out to press the stuff in the phone fell off, so there's no way to turn it on or off without having it plugged in at all times.

The phone itself was still great and im sure id still be using it, and as for my current phone, its just a little bit slower than it was when I got it, and I hate slower things so I need to upgrade it or ill go crazy.

What about you? Are you one of those people with phones that last for 3 years? Do you somehow manage to break your phone every couple of months?

Speaking of breaking, the nokias literally are as indestructible as the memes say, I've had my current phone completely disassemble after falling and it's fine.

Well, I had one of the older phones (right before touch screens became the "in" thing) for about 5 years. It had a very small keypad on the front, and it would also slide open to show a full keyboard on the inside. It didn't flip or anything, but slid open to the side. I want to say it was the Samsung Intensity 2? That thing was a tank. By the time I finally upgraded to a smart phone, which was literally only about 10 months ago, the thing didn't even have paint around most of it's edges anymore. I probably dropped it 100 + times, a lot of them even being when it was slid open, and it never even hiccuped on me.

Before that, I had a Motorola RAZR for the longest time. I mean it was probably 2 - 3 years until I finally retired it. I traded it for a newer phone with a touch screen, but ended up smashing the thing a few months after getting it lol. I was so mad I threw it at (not really at, i was more trying to scare her) my sister's head, and it smashed into a bunch of pieces against the wall behind her. That's how I ended up with the cheap phone I explained at the beginning of the post. But yea, the RAZR was awesome man. It was super sleek for the time, and the battery on it was really impressive for what it did. Plus it had a tiny screen on the outside in the front, which would let you know who was calling / texting / notifications / and worked as a clock. I really miss the old RAZRs...

For the past 10 months, I've actually been using the Motorola Android RAZR. Funny how I ended up with another one, and this phone was just given to me to use, I didn't really pick it out for myself (it was my mom's old phone, so I just upgraded the plan to include data and switched which phone was on the line).

I think for me would like 6 or 7 years? Maybe even more than that? I'm not always the sort of person who looks into always upgrading her phone so I just go with what I have, and use it. There are a lot of things I don't fuss about on and so with that the upgrading of my phone and all is my least attention because I'm not always into upgrading so fast or when I should. For me is use the phone as long as I can, and if it stops working for some reason then I get a new phone, that's how I do it with mine. I see most people upgrade to get the latest version of what phone people have, that they don't have. But, I always think as long as your old phone was working whats wrong with it? I can understand if it may be to do with appearance wise and still having a brick phone. but, if its to do with you having good phone that is a touch screen and with the cool gadgets on there then I don't see the reason of changing, that phone until its the right time. People are different so it amazes me how the world can be towards phones. :/

Most of my phones break in less than 2 years. I had a nokia lumia 520 that lasted from Feburay 2013 to October 2013, a iphone 4s that lasted from March 2015 to February 2016, and now I have a Blu Studio 7.0 II that is working fine right now, and hopefully for a while.

I don't have most of my phones for much longer than a year. Usually I either end up dropping them causing the screen to crack or they've broken from the phone somehow malfunctioning. Likely because a lot of my past phones were either pre owned or really lower end models. The former happened with my last phone, A Sony Xperia Z3, which despite having a shell it somehow still landed on the screen when I accidentally dropped it.

I don't actually remember what the longest I've had a single phone for is, but if I had to guess probably something like a year and a half.

I've had this one for like 4 years now and it has served me well.

They say an iPhone breaks as soon as it even touches the ground, but I can tell you, I dropped this thing so many times and the screen has yet to crack even a tiny bit. Don't even have a protective case or anything.

I believe 4 years is the longest time I've ever had a phone.

I usually have a phone for a while. My first one I had for three years before it just died on me. It was a flip phone. Then I got another flip phone and used it for about two years before I was given my first Android (Samsung Infuse), which lasted me four years. I haven't had my current phone very long yet, but I like it pretty good.

Also I typically only switch phones when the one I have dies...whether from wear or from me falling on top of it.

I think I have had my slide out keyboard phone for about 3-4 years. This is good, considering,it has been dropped, kicked and has a few scratches on the screen.

I had a Samsung Droid Charge for 3 years from 2012-2015. I never used it for calling since I never had it activated by a carrier. It was only used to play games, listening to music or even go on vizzed. Eventually it wouldn't charge anymore, so it was officially dead. It was best android phone I had. Then after that I got a Kyocera Hydro Vibe which was the second best. Now I have iPhone 6s which I got recently.

I've had a Sony Ericsson w810i for around 10 years. Got it not long after it was released, and I still use it everyday now.
Great phone, solid, decent light/torch on it for when I'm working in the dark, plenty of features that I still use..
It's been dropped loads of times, but the screen is still totally fine. I got a new battery for it last year, only £2.
I had bought a Samsung Tocca lite in 2010, but I've not used that for years.

I had this one weird bootleg blackberry for three years, and then an LG (crapton of numbers and letters that no human could remember off the top of their head) for two years. And that's the entire time I've owned a phone.

I owned a Nokia phone, E-series I believe, from September 2011 to March 2014. About two and a half years.

The phone was alright. It was too cumbersome for anything besides texting and calling. By the time I started caring about the lack of features I had picked up an Iphone 5S, which will soon overtake the Nokia in terms of how long I've had it.

One year and I am so proud of that. Gladly my relationships last 3 times that lol. I've had close to 20 phones... they all met a tragic end.

The longest I've made a phone last was 3 or 4 years, I lost track. I was due for an upgrade a couple years ago, but my mom didn't want to be locked into a contract.

I finally upgraded now that I have my own income.

So that phone went bye-bye.

I have my Verizon LG from 2006 when I first got married. 11 years later, it still slides open, still does the QWERTY keyboard, still slogs through emojis, doesn't let me see many incoming texts, especially group texts, and it calls people. The camera isn't bad, something like 3 megapixels, and if I email them on, they turn out pretty good. The memory is garbage and I can only have like 10 pics at once time. But it works. I think I'm average 76 cents a month in total cost of buying that phone. It's cheap as all get out, I can throw it out a window and put the battery back in. It works, it doesn't break, it's a freaking tank and I love it.

Verizon hasn't cancelled my service to the phone either and I'm waiting until May to exercise my free upgrade. I know they're going to laugh at me when I show up with what I have now. Maybe I'll get something from 2009 just to fight the good fight.

Ghostbear1111 : Eeesh, I don't think I've ever owned a single item for anywhere near that long. My Vita would probably be the item that I've had the longest and that hasn't even crossed 4 years yet.

I've used the same phone for about 2 years now. In October, I'll finally be able to exchange my phone, fully paid off. (Although I may switch carriers to get it a little cheaper than Verizon.)

Ghosbear1111: Holy Cow! You've had the same phone since 2006? Is it the same kind of build as Nokia made back then? That phone has to be armored or something. You know that smartphones are awesome, right? They do work.

darthyoda : It is both a badge of pride that I have owned a phone (like a wallet) for that long. That makes me think I'm good at taking care of my stuff.

And it's funny to see kids react to a phone that they can't tap and slide and use like an iPhone. They're like, "How does this work?"

It's nothing I don't trust with new phones. I just like the way mine works. I know if I had a smart phone or an iPhone or something with technology, I would use that technology and be buried in my phone instead of paying attention to the world around me. I don't want to do that. That is part of the motivation to keep me from doing that.
