For me Monster Rancher was really amazing, there is just so much extra. Hundreds of monsters to summon and breed. I strongly suggest at least giving this gem a try. The graphics are great considering the time it was released, and the story has lots of random encounters. When you consider all the different species and breeds there is a tremendous amount of replay value. There's also a really nice system they have specifically for managing the monsters you aren't training at the moment. And lots of items that can offer assistance in training all future monsters.
