Firewatch Service Allows Gamers To Make Real Life Postcards From In-Game Screenshots.

"Boy I sure would like to send my mom a postcard with this screenshot on the front of it" Said no one ever...well except that Gameranx guy, but he's weird anyway.

Hey buddy! Look at this postcard I made you from my Destiny screenshot!

Five points to anyone who gets the reference. Also someone really needs to take it upon themselves to link that guy to this article.

So yeah, now Postcards made from video game screenshots that you take while gaming is apparently a thing. The idea has been implemented in the newly released PC game, Firewatch.

Currently the feature is not available in the PS4 version because Firewatch Photos is a network service, and according to Panic (the publisher) consoles need to be "extra vigilant" when it comes to network access. However, by all indications Sony is working with them now to see what can be done about implementing this feature into the PS4 version of the game as well. Until then PS4 owners will simply have to settle for sharing their pictures on their social media and game site accounts...where almost everyone who would care to see their screenshots will be anyway.

Oh and did I mention the cost? Yeah, did you really think it would be free to have cards printed and mailed to you? You really have been spending too much time playing video games.

The service ships out a "set" of 4" x6" prints for about $15. Kind of steep for a postcard...that again, you really can't very well use, or at least not the way that postcards are meant to be used.

Think about it: you're driving through a small town with some nice scenery on your vacation. You stop by a gas station to refuel and you see a postcard with a picture of the scenery in the town or of some monument there. You buy it and send it to a friend to show them a little slice of your vacation. That's the entire idea behind a postcard, so how does one use a Firewatch postcard? I suppose we shall see. Personally I could think of less expensive ways to show off screenshots or to suggest games, though perhaps it would be a neat little thing to have lying around your house just for the heck of it.

So what do you think? Is this a good idea, or is it a little on the silly side? Personally this gamer feels that it's a very cool concept, but also rather pointless, as there is really no appropriate occasion to send a postcard of a area in a video game. I mean, what will it say in the caption: "Wish I was here"?

It's. Silly, but it's the good silly, I'm sure that there's the kinds of people who would love getting this kind of a postcard instead if a normal one, I probably would.

I mean, the idea of postcards themselves are silly now with normal letters, emails, SOCIAL MEDIA, it's not like postcards are a really big thing anymore so something like this may interest some people.

zanderlex : Yeah, I'm thinking the same (good kind of silly). It doesn't make any sense, but it's still a cool idea. A bit of a novelty, but a cool idea. I doubt it would ever be useful, especially at the cost of $15 for a set.

I can't imagine this will see a whole lot of use. More so than anything, maybe influential people in the gaming community sending them as thanks for one thing or another? I don't know, maybe I'm wrong, but it just seems outdated. Granted, I would love to receive something like this, I just don't ever see it becoming any more than a small novelty used on rare occasions. And 15$ for a set is a bit pricey. I would think most gamers would rather spend the money towards actual gaming and just create a custom picture using technology to send someone.
