Believe it or not, but Steam and Google Chrome don't go well together, well at least chrome extensions. Supposedly there are scammers out there creating extensions built to steal items from your inventory. If you happen to find am extension to help you out with certain games, you should be wary that it might be a scam. By running these extensions, the scammers can either fully see what's in your inventory, from cards and CSGO items, to gifted games and backgrounds, and they take what they please, or they write their code to take a certain amount of items right out from under your noses.

As of right now, the scanner who has been behind the latest batch of hijinks has supposedly made off with more than 2500 different items in the last week though was banned and had all the extension codes disabled. Theres a couple problems though because even though the scammers were caught, the items or value aren't being returned to the gamers, and that sucks if you're one if the guys who lost $100 or more in stuff. On top of that, there are people who now fear that it could happen again, and that instead of going for just inventory items, future scammers can go for more valuable items.

I think this is just dumb on so many levels, but what are your thoughts on this? Have you been affected by this or are afraid that something like this can happen again?

Vanelan : Well its mostly gaming ones, mainly ones for CSGO stuff, you know, games that have a large inventory base, so CSGO add ons, TF2 ones, etc. As for the ones that were already made, all of those have since been disabled, and the only way to really see if you have been scammed by it is to see if you actually lost anything from your inventory or to see if you have an ad on that promises you something, but you never got anything out of it.

This is pretty common with all sorts of different games/platforms. I remember the days I played WoW a lot, and there were always some sort of strange extensions and add ons that people were using to hijack peoples accounts. A general rule of thumb is to be very careful as to what you are downloading.

zanderlex : I guess I am in the clear. I haven't used any add-ons for steam games.

Jordanv78 : I guess that's why they push the authenticators so hard. Also, I didn't know you played WoW. You still play? :3

Vanelan : I played through the WOTLK days, but kinda lost interest in it after that. They just nerfed the game a little much, and truth be told I spent so many hours in the game that I kinda got burnt out. For those 3-5 years though, I had a GREAT time.

I tried to get back into it when MOP came out, and Just couldn't get back into it.

Jordanv78 : MOP was very disappointing. I wasn't impressed by any of the content. The WoD expansion looks interesting though. I don't wanna hijack this thread with WoW talk though. I'll have to consider making a WoW thread.

Vanelan : Not a bad idea, I'm pretty sure one's existed before.... I've dabbled in it as well from time to time.. I just prefer Final Fantasy 14 a lot more... Shame that no one here plays it....
