Mine could have been taken out a year ago. They've pushed my current set of teeth so tightly that I can't even floss anymore. Hopefully I'll get them out soon enough before my perfect teeth start crowding. It's good to know the operation doesn't sound that hellish. Our family has a really good dentist, so there's no chance of any hiccups.
