Since Rey was abandoned as a child, I think its more likely Han and Leia didn't recognize Rey years later, or maybe didn't want to tell her so she could complete her training with Luke without being distracted by how Kylo Ren turns out.

Vanelan : totally new theory I had heard - she might be Obi Wan's granddaughter. We know nothing of what Obi Wan did on Tatooine until Luke becomes an adult and Obi Wan could easily have had a kid in that time who could have had Rey after that. For them to end up on another desert planet also makes some sense....

Obviously there isn't a lot to go on in the movie to base this on but yet another possible theory is interesting.

Vanelan : there was no reason to mention his kids (if he had any) because they didn't play ANY part in the original trilogy.

And if there was a child they would keep it quiet until they were ready to reveal.

I think I need to re-watch the original trilogy. I don't remember those parts with Leia finding Luke. ^^;

I don't think there is any rule about Jedi's only using lightsabers. It's not like it would blow up in their hand if they tried. However, a Jedi would have better reflexes and what not that would keep them from cutting their own hands off.

Leia helps find Luke at the very end of Empire after Luke fights Vader and the jumps off that ledge into the tubes and ends up outside of the cloud city. Leia, Chewie and Lando are in the Falcon already and Luke calls out to Leia and she knows where he is.

I finally saw the movie! It is much better than the prequels, but I feel like there are MANY holes that I hope will be filled in future movies if they get produced
  • Why is there both a Republic and a Resistance? And why do First Order generals keep saying that the first one is sponsoring the second one?
  • How can a former stormtrooper wield a lightsaber with such without having any (apparent) Force skills, ESPECIALLY against a Dark Jedi?
  • What is this (apparent) new mental torture trick Kylo is using? In the original trilogy Darth Vader merely tried to use a, er, truth serum?
  • How the hell did they make a planetary weapon? I know this is science FICTION but there are limits.
Also Luke's presence looked more like a cameo than an actual real presence in the movie. Leia, Han and Ackbar were placed "innocently" like Lucas did in Episode IV.

Besides why can Leia not feel his presence? Is there a tree of the Dark Side nearby that cancel out his presence?

It did kind of mention that Luke left everything he had behind, something so terrible could have happened that he had to leave, maybe he was trying to protect her from something.

R2 had pretty much all of the map, maybe he actually left clues for her to eventually find him.

janus : Think of it as any company, they could have just set out different sets of people to different areas or to do different things. I'm sure it isn't just those two, I'm sure there's other "departments" far off that we don't know about.

janus : well, the stormtrooper would have been more or less equal in skill with melee weapons. It seems like they were more trained with melee weapons than anyone previously thought (or are now).

Also, Kylo Ren was injured when he fought Finn and Rey. Also, he is only an apprentice and not a master. And really, that fight lasted less than a minute and ended with Finn getting his back sliced up. Hardly can be seen as anything but a decisive win for Ren.
