So you might've asked yourself, "where can I test my mettle as a Pokemon trainer on vizzed, all my life all I've wanted is to be recognized as the true Pokemon Master of Vizzed that I am" Well look no further, because I'm here to tell you about a new Pokemon tournament being hosted right here on Vizzed!

So what's this did Zlinqx finally lose it?

That's besides the point and for another thread to discuss (probably yes). This is a Pokemon tournament that will be played using the Pokemon Showdown randomized team function as the title implies, this is to hopefully make it accessible to as many people as possible, allowing both competetive battlers and casual players just looking for a fun distraction to join. The only requirment to enter will be a 5000 Viz entrance deposit which will be given back to you at the end of the tournament provided you complete all your matchups. The thought behind this tournament besides having some fun is that if it garners enough interest we can hopefully make Pokemon Showdown tournaments a regular thing on here, hosting even more with different rules and even more Prizes.

Yes there will be prizes to be won for the most skilled competitors the part everyone is in interested of course, so why not take a look?

1st place price: 50000 viz
2nd place prize: 25000 viz
3rd place prize: 10000 viz
4th to 16th place prize: Thank you come again

The winners will of course receive their entrance deposits as well for completing all their matchups.

It's simple, as I said there are no real requirments, though you will of course need to be able to use Pokemon Showdown and familiarize yourself enough with it by the time the tournament starts to where you are able to participate. To register just send me the 5000 Viz entrance deposit and post in this thread stating you want to join, and you will be added to the list of competitors. The tournament will commence once all sixteen spots are filled up. 

Okay, this sure sounds amazing and all but how will the tournament actually work?

I'm glad you asked kind stranger!

This will be a standard knockout tournament, we will start with eight matchups of two contestants and the winner of each matchup goes on to face one of the other winners until the final matchup has been completed and the winner has been decided. A match will also be held to decide the 3rd place prize winner. You will have five days to organize a matchup with your opponent and it is recommended you use this thread to do so, though you are free to do it any way you wish. Once your matchup has been completed you should post your results in this thread, it is recommended for your own sake and for spectator viewing pleasure, that you link a video of the match using the built in replay function of Pokemon Showdown.

But what if someone fails to complete a matchup?

If a contestant fails to respond, the contestant will be disqualified from the rest of the tournament and will NOT receive their entrance deposit back because I'm that evil. This is why it is recommended you use this thread as part of organizing a matchup as it will allow me to see that you made an effort towards doing so, thereby making it easier for me  to judge a matchup in your favor in the event that your opponent fails to respond.

In the event that both opponents fail to respond they will be taken deep into Mt. Silver so they can make friends with the surely friendly local populace until the next tournament starts provided they do not mysteriously disappear before then for which I cannot be held liable. Oh you mean what happens to the tournament? Well the person who experienced the most narrow loss out of the losing contestants in the other matchups that round will be given a chance to replace the winning contestant of that matchup to make it the most fair.

Other means may be used as well, though I do not recommend the use of Pidgeon Post or the sending of Ravens as I may not be able to respond to your question before the tournament is over. Yes I can keep going like this forever.

Even though I have HORRIBLE luck when it comes to random battles (Mudkip you know what I'm talking about lol) I'm definitely joining this.

What do you mean by downloading Showdown? I always just go to the website to play. 

Furret : Woops, forgot to mention you're able to play it in your browser, just so used to having i downloaded and yeah when teams are randomized there's really no telling how things will end up, but hopefully it should make for a fun tournament.

First of all: yes, Zlinqx finally lost it.

To the matter at hand, I've tried Showdown before, and had mixed opinions about it. Not the best, but I've seen worst, though the random team is a lot of fun to deal with.

My only question is: when do we start? Due to holidays, I'll have limited free time, and after that I have finals in January. By the looks of it, it seems like it will be a weekly tournament, but then again, timezones can be a pain to deal with. Could we set a default time and day, just in case two battlers don't agree on a specific time?

Zlinqx : I had already made a thread like this, but only one person responded. Could you please close that thread? Also, I am interested in joining the tournament as well. I will send you the 5000 Viz shortly. 

I have an idea that you may consider: Having a consolation, or losers', bracket for everyone who loses before the Semis. If you are interested, I can make the consolation bracket for you after you make the real bracket. (The purpose of having the consolation bracket in my opinion is so that if you played a very tough opponent first round, or you received a bad team, you get more chances to battle.

It's pretty good for just trying out different teams against people or killing some time, or hosting tournaments like this one.

As for your question like I said it'll start once all the spots are filled up which should hopefully be pretty soon within the next few days but may take longer. The thought is that with there being five days and most people having more free time now that it's winter break it should be easier to organize a matchup. A default time might be a good idea though, I'd have to think of something that hopefully doesn't become too much of an obstacle because of differing timezones among people, likely something like 4pm or 5pm central time on the third day. It can still be somewhat bothersome in particular for europeans but hopefully not unachievable for people.

I will consider the idea of a losers bracket, while it could be fun for people wanting to battle more, I wouldn't want it to be mandatory to people wanting to receive their Viz prize. As this will still be a somewhat small tournament I'm thinking it could create a lot of needless clutter and would possibly be better suited if hosting a larger tournament in the future.

Yeah, I didn't think about it that way. Sorry, I didn't consider all of that. Maybe you should make this one single elimination and make tournaments in the future with a consolation bracket. 

Another idea that just came to me is having an alternates list. In case some people don't show up, the alternates can take their spot. They will have to be willing to be online a lot though, so they know what's going on. 

RDay13 : It's cool, suggestions and opinions are welcome regardless This is likely something that I'd incorporate if a larger tournament does end up happening that likely won't be for quite a while since that would be best suited for a time when as many people as possible can participate so maybe sometime during the summer next year, that's also provided this is successful and gets enough interest.
