What was your opinion of Q on Voyager?

Would you find some of the fight scenes on Star Trek cheesy?

What is the purpose of star trek? Any big goals they got set to accomplish?

xfighter- My opinion of Q was dislike at first, but I started to like him a little later...I don't think he is on Voyager, he is on TNG.

I thought that the fight scenes in TOS were cheesy, but in TNG, DS9, Voyager, and all the newer ones are not.

Jig- Star Trek was made to help people imagine how space exploration is, while keeping the shows entertaining and suspenseful. They don't have any big goals set out now, but they are known as one of the greatest shows of all times...

Um... Q was totally in Voyager and TNG. Someone didn't watch the entire series.

And as for the actual purpose and goals of Star Trek, a simple Wikipedia search reveals the following:

Star Trek stories usually depict the adventures of humans and aliens who serve in the Federation's Starfleet. The protagonists are essentially altruists whose ideals are sometimes only imperfectly applied to the dilemmas presented in the series. The conflicts and political dimensions of Star Trek sometimes represent allegories for contemporary cultural realities: Star Trek: The Original Series addressed issues of the 1960s,just as later spin-offs have reflected issues of their respective decades. Issues depicted in the various series include war and peace, the value of personal loyalty, authoritarianism, imperialism, class warfare, economics, racism, religion, human rights, sexism and feminism, and the role of technology. Roddenberry stated: "[By creating] a new world with new rules, I could make statements about sex, religion, Vietnam, politics, and intercontinental missiles. Indeed, we did make them on Star Trek: we were sending messages and fortunately they all got by the network."

Roddenberry intended the show to have a highly progressive political agenda reflective of the emerging counter-culture of the youth movement, though he was not fully forthcoming to the networks about this. He wanted Star Trek to show mankind what it might develop into, if only it would learn from the lessons of the past, most specifically by ending violence. An extreme example are the Vulcans, who had a very violent past but learned to control their emotions. His efforts were somewhat thwarted by the network's concerns over marketability, e.g., they were opposed to Roddenberry's insistence on a racially diverse crew of the Enterprise, against the opposition of the studio.

You are correct, I didn't watch some of the voyager series ...

I was thinking that we have a debate on a certain aspect of Star Trek... You can still ask questions if you want to though...

If you could live anywhere in the Star Trek universe where would you live? (could be a real place on earth if you like )

I would live on the Enterprise in TNG, it is HUGE and I would really like to live in it...

Would you want a phaser or a tricorder?
*Also for a small debate Star Trek science of faster than light travel is highly factious at our present or even future because if someone were to get closer to the speed of light there mass would increase immensely making it unlikely to travel.*

I would rather have a phaser, because it is a weapon. (Unless I would rather hit people with a tricorder )
I chose phaser, because I would find it a lot more usefull, since I won't really be examining anything here on earth...

Do you like DS9 sept? I think it's ok, it's different to the other series but I think just because it doesn't happen on a starship doesn't mean it's not good.
I especially like the performances of René Auberjonois (Odo).

Do you find inter-speices intamacy probable like in Star Trek?

DH- I thought DS9 was okay also... the hilarious thing is that I watched the last season first, so I knew the ending before I even watched the beginning seasons, yeah I think they are okay, but I like the other ones a bit better, because they keep you on the edge of your seat... but DS9 is mostly conversation and not too much action...

Retro- First it is "intimacy" and "inter-species"
I think that is a question that can't really be answered, because we don't know whether there is other life-forms in our galaxy, but from what we have seen on earth... I don't think that is possible, unless the aliens are human-like, which is a 1 in a 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 chance... or maybe less than that

Who's your favourite character in the most recent Star Trek movie, and why?
