*Hops down from atop couch cushion* Ahh it's that lovely festive time of year once more! Sitting around the dining table with friends and family, enjoying the time you're all able to spend together. That warm fabric like feeling inside, that just heats your heart and mind up...usually being compared to stuffed dolls and/or knitted plushies from mothers all around. (or a personal favorite store) We've all seen how such a sweet style can affect our feelings in such a childish way, especially when that big red company with the "Nin" to the "tendo" gave us that same experience with a smiling pink puffball in a whole new state. Many vibrant leaves of fall have come to pass upon this earthly ground; alongside, several cheerful snowy winters filling our youthful spirits with delight. This feeling and its time has come and past for many years now since the pink hero's venture in this field, leaving us to wait and ponder when we'd get to enjoy this feeling once more...and with whom this time? *quilted waves wash over as grunts echo in land* wraaarhhh-huuubuudaaahooooh that's right! It's time for our lovely little dino-friend to enter this emotional and heartwarming style and landscape, possibly see what our star rod saving hero couldn't, and what he'll venture past that'll have changed/upgraded from our last look into this gameplay setting! What are you waiting for? Grab your pins and needles, your childish and determined atmosphere, and let's all enjoy this journey together! *Grabs Vizzed Icon and Sonic57 pose, heading off into fields* Waaaahhoooo...friends!!

                         [===]Crafting and tossing together, many levels of interest and design}_-_{

Many of you will have noticed above that I have mentioned Kirby a lot, which may be confusing to some since this game stars "Yoshi" instead. What's up? The simple reason for this being the fact that Woolly World is the (mostly) spiritual successor to "Kirby's Epic Yarn" already released 5 long years ago, also due to the fact that it's made by the same company and retains that same fabric filled and artistic nature as the aforementioned game above. As such we'll be making side-by-side comparisons often throughout this quest through Handmade Ocean, the only question that leaves us with is how does it compare to Epic Yarn and just how is it in general as a standard game/Wii U game in general? First off I can definitely say if you're expect HD or stunning/powerful graphics...then you'll probably wanna hop your stitching's over to a different game as this won't be for you; however, if you enjoy more so creative and imaginative ideas then stick your threads upon this guilty adventure as you won't be disappointed. Character models and background environments wise, this game keeps that basic yet adorable yarn plushie design amongst your Yoshi's and enemies such as "Shy Guys" or "Blarggs". Which just makes you smile while enjoying the mellow and basic nature of this game! Am sure though that examples will do better than simple words, so why not head out onto some levels to give you a far better picture of how this game appears...hm?

             |_|Sponge Cave Spelunking|/|

Starting this level off it may not seem all that different from the introduction level of World 1, I mean with the whole being outside in the mainlands...moving balls around to destroy certain walls too? But, it's after that 1st slow minute or so that things really start to pick up in looks and variety! Once you shoot out from that pipe above into this area below...things appear to have changed drastically in surroundings as well as enemies. You enter a deep yet bright underground cave, filled with teal colored scenery and objects that stand in your way...almost seeming completely harmless for the kind of tone you'd expect in this type of area? Venturing around this beautiful although strange level, standing on top or bashing your way through the sponge-layered blocks that fill this cove, even just creating walkways to certain routes with your wool balls. This just makes this level so stress relieving for you, for the fact that in most parts you're able to just create your route how you wish with your attacks as if you're in complete control and unrestricted. With strands of fabric reaching far down from within the background...almost as if you're looking at the roots of the world up above; alongside, the mushroom platforms you'll create and use from the life of the world below you.
All of these things tied together with a peaceful and somber melody, as you stare before you...all the gems buried inside the foundations and infant stages of naturistic life at each stop. Makes you feel strangely comforted below ground to which one wouldn't expect with a title like "spelunking" which is usually related to dark and dreary sights, almost as if you can just lay upon some fungus and have a nice relaxing rest after a hard day or some trouble within the game. One of the first places that truly caught my eye as once you exit out that final pipe and enter the sunshine above once more, you look back and somewhat actually desire to down inside there again as if something just is missing from the world above that you can experience down below? Very pretty area and would recommend a check if are around the stage at all! *flutter jumps through hole in ceiling to area above*

            |__)()(_/Wobbly Mobile Jaunt_()()__|

*gets wool stolen from self, sits down and cries cotton* ...Confused? Think back for a min, am sure many of us remember a time when we were like this. Something we love dearly gets taken away from us by a parent, bully, or sibling and since we can't do anything about it...we usually end up streaming tears. This state of infancy is something we've all experienced and something this area represents perfectly in terms of its visual appeal and atmosphere. *playing with building blocks* Sitting there on the floor near your child cradle and pattern covered walls, playing with your toys below and enjoying what seemingly in your youth feels like eternal happiness or fun. Looking across the platforms our green dino plushie has to venture across in order to finish the area...each one in the shapes of a moon, sun, star, or other objects similarly to what you'd have noticed in a young child's cradle dangling from their suspended mobiles. Just giving you that innocent and adorable baby like fashion as you play with your tiny Yoshi hero, and possibly even get flashbacks from your own moments like this occurring during your early life as a son/daughter. As the level continues farther and farther...the levels layout gets more so tiring/restful with toys such as rocket ships as well as quilts for resting and attachable building cubes all stacked on top one another.
If there's any level that can make you feel like a child inside a much larger world again, (though guess this hedgehog never really has matured past then ) say no more to this stage and just hop right in! The soft-spoken melody you'll hear throughout as well as the environment around you, can definitely make it feel like you're a baby cuddled up in a blanket again and are smiling happy inside this large world again. (crib being huge for that age) Just like an infant though, I'd hate to have to keep you here for so long and make you annoyed/fussy. Let's all just start this ending portion of the segment.

Tying all the strings together and looking at the end result, I think it's safe to say that the Good-Feel team once again put forth a "great-job" on their game product. Making the graphics stand out amongst most with it's unique and creative style from before, with the Epic Yarn feels mixed with its own special style. Pushing into the folds of certain areas or unraveling certain patches with your woolly tongue, to progress forward throughout each area as well as find other secrets throughout each level. If you enjoy the classic play-style Yoshi's island amongst the cute and fluffy nature of Epic Yarn, then the visual here most definitely will appeal to you and possibly even stronger than before due to the re imagining of the gameplay. *pulls down backdrops and ravels into ball with quills* I'd give my score here for graphics a beautifully crafted 9 out of 10, for keeping that lovely artistic value but not exactly perfection for he system it's on now. Time to thread on! *loosens threads and goes down warp pipe to next section*

``~__/A melody of tunes firing up that cheerful spirit inside your gaming heart__~''

So from what we can see it seems like the looks and appeal from this games predecessor have rubbed off into this sequel, which leaves us with the 2nd main question for this game. How does Woolly World's soundtrack in terms of effects and music live up when compared to Kirby's classic adventure into this style? To me at least when I look back at Epic Yarn, it still amazes me how they were able to create such an influential/diverse/as well as interesting library of sound effects and songs to play throughout your journey...due to the kind of game that it is as well? Being such a childish and adorable game in terms of looks and appeal; and yet, delivering some of the best songs you can find on that one system? Unheard of! Might as well take those convoluted ideas out of your head again if you're a fan of that games music, since this one falls no needling line shorter than an amazing job once more! I'll be honest and say though, that I do feel that the overwhelming majority of Epic Yarn's music fit perfectly with the stages you were presented with...while with Yoshi's game here...it can be a hit or miss level wise. Yet, it may still sound superb in sound terms due to how upbeat or pumpy this games music may drive you when playing through certain areas or even just by watching a playthrough of the game as it passes by certain stages. Even moving onto the basics of sound effects may give you some doses of nostalgia from the early SNES or even DS years of gaming, such as Yoshi's grunt/taunt sounding similar to that of Smash Bros or Mario 64 DS while the sound effects of destroying certain blocks or obtaining items sound just like Yoshi's Island sound effects on the SNES...all of which just add to the delightful scenery of the levels and even Yoshi himself. Like many will say though: "talk is cheap" to which I won't disagree on, as such let's get onto what you really want which are some good choices/examples of themes to check out.

           ???Shy But Deadly??!!

*tosses wool ball at wood platform* At this point within the game you should be familiar with all the tactics/elements the game will be tossing at you. All of these ranging from the level designs of areas, the enemies you'll encounter in said areas, and the transformations our little Yoshi shall morph into throughout this journey. As such things decide to kick up a notch here by adding several different attacking shy guys as well as some with bombs; but hey, why not use those lessons you've learned from the past 5 levels beforehand? What I'm leading onto is the fact that right from the get-go of this area...the music is kind of just shouting at you: "hey you're finally getting the hangs of things, why not bump up the enemies and designs a bit? Don't worry though just remember your training and all will be well, you can do it!" which really invigorates you and makes you not worry as much as to what may lay ahead, and is instead making you focus on what's right in your path at this moment in time and that you WILL be able to get past it with some trial and effort! Racing through this forest area with many wool balls at your disposal against the foes in your path, soon coming into their somewhat wood-fort like spots of the level...with that clapping melody in the background and trumps/high instruments raising your determination and mood. With the wildlife kind of naturistic setting you are exploring around and this one of a kind peaceful/upbeat music, it's not only beautiful in sight and sound, but...emotionally and physically as well. Since it just makes your heart soar and your body not wanting to give up no matter how much pressure this zone may put it through! If one of you users out there are ever down, and just need that childish smile to perk back up on your face. Don't walk past this forest like setting nor its wonderful tunes jamming out of those fruit tree leaves either! *happily ground pounds down to exit of level* AHHHHHhhhh YEEEAaaaahhhh!!!!

            o0o--Spooky Scraps! Don't get Spooked!--0o0

Well taking all that determination you had up above, let's head into an area where your mind and Yoshi will need it most...this ghost house! These iconic places have usually been the trademark of fear and/or painful puzzles you'll need to figure out in order to progress on through a games story. Throughout this dark and dreary residence you'll survey around, you'll usually encounter sights of the recently deceased and/or spirits that have been haunting this place for ages before you opened that wrong door in the long narrow hallway. Going from such a friendly theme to such a depressing and gritty theme such as this is quite unsettling, and the melody that rings throughout each creak and crack of the rundown place only makes this theme that much more petrifying to most. Am surprised that Yoshi wouldn't lose more than just some strands of string from the creepy sights he'll have to encounter in this place. Already just that opening melody just sounding like darkness has been chasing you through a never-ending forest and finally capturing you and tossing you into this house of nightmares, to become a plaything for the monsters that lay around in pieces here and there...then being left with a low-key echo that repeats several times over...almost like a broken recorder that can only play a certain side of the record.
Then out of nowhere...suddenly hearing the keys banging loudly with a higher pitch as other instruments decide to join in, almost as if they're crying out that the enemy haunting your Yoshi is but only a few feet away now. Quite a theme to catch any normal person's attention, especially younger audiences of this game or system! These themes have been known to be chilling across this series; however, this version for some reason is the most noteworthy to me so far...as it just gives you that goosebump like feeling as if you'd forgotten something gravely important. (Alongside the fact that it's similar to something you'd feel in Luigi's Mansion instead) Just like the ghosts here though...we can't stay too long/forever, which leads me to think ending off this portion might be in "our" best interests. *looks around room in light, and disappears as light moves away* ... *spirits laughing* heheHAHAHA!

             -/|-Fluffy Snow, Here We Go-|/-

This is just gonna be a short example; but, I felt I just had to talk about it with you all. I haven't had much time to listen to the whole music library before starting this work up...so I snipped through a couple of themes before listening to them in full detail and this song was one of the first ones I had took a peek into. All I can say is...wow xD I think someone at Nintendo was thinking a little bit too far into this year. Don't get me wrong the song is fine and jolly like the name and zone would anticipate; although, it's just the main fact that the theme (at least to me) has a sort of Christmas shopping feel to it...like something you'd hear in Macy's or JCPenny's during a festive/holiday sale x'D. It works nicely with the frosty-ridden level it's exhibiting but good jolly ho-ho-ho gosh, do you need to be prepared for it! *rolls snowball down onto patched-up enemies*

When looking over everything it's easy to tell that just like how Good-Feel surprised us the first time around, they mastered their art enabling them to continue stunning and pleasing us with melodic memories this time around. Though I still do prefer Kirby's music more, this game doesn't trail THAT far behind it! I would personally have to say that this games sound department deserves a 9 out 10 score! Great job so far, big N to the intendo! *hears enemies bashing together from projectiles and runs ahead*

?+++Varied amount of enjoyment value, depending on players desires+++?

Now we reach probably the most mixed portion of this game and the reviews upon it, the addictiveness value for a game about wool? Yeah...right away that may turn many people away from the game and this review in general. Similarly to how I had said in the Kirby review, this game will either be a love or hate scenario for some gamers for several reasons. If you're a fan of creative and unique gameplay forms then this game probably will be for you, and most definitely be enjoyable if you had a great time with Epic Yarn by gameplay and visual means. Yet, if you do not enjoy either the looks or gameplay style found there or even in Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island...then it'd be best to just steer clear from this game and not waste your money or time upon it. Now one thing that made the other games addictiveness value so high was how many secrets/extras it offered you in-game and outside of just the standard levels you'd play through, such as decorating your own appt with fabrics you found in the kingdom and helping Dom Woole with his tenants and their needs. Moving our attention onto Yoshi's game now...how does it fare in comparison to that previously released game? It still keeps that same entertaining and addictive nature as before with the gameplay and somewhat raises the bar for bringing back a nostalgic gameplay style from decades past. Using the SNES style movement and actions with the interactive environment from the "yarn" based format beforehand, adds to that whole enjoyment factor as well as some great end of year memories you'll gain from viewing/playing this disc.
Although, I can't be exactly 100% pleasured with Woolly World since even though it did add a whole new element to a fresh new style...it took away many features that the previous one had implemented and therefore not leaving you with much after your dinosaur is done being on the cool "wool" floor. What I mean by this is that unless you plan on 100%'ing the game or defeating all the secret levels then you're basically going to be completely done with the game unless you feel like starting all over again, we'll talk more so about that later on...though it's just a point that does detract from the high score woolly world "would've" received had it included more things like Kirby's game had. This game does offer a "classic" and "mellow" mode option to switch between during gameplay, depending on how you may feel when popping this game inside your Wii U...or let's say if you had some younger relatives come over to visit. As such the "mellow" mode is basically like a "free play" mode in most games, to which the game allows you to play as a Winged Yoshi and fly through the level when you may need help at certain points. Albeit, you can still run through the levels normally in this mode and only use it at optional times so no worries certain players out there!

There isn't really much else that can be describe for addictiveness without taking away from later parts in this review and game, as such I feel that this segment from everything noted above deserves a 7 out of 10. For keeping that enjoyable and special adventure from years past; although, ultimately getting rid of many features that made the original predecessors game so successful in most people's eyes. Keep moving forward now heroes! *flies across pits and enters story segment*

//One darkening story, sadly overdone and unsurprising by this day and age\/

'Twas just any normal day on the land of Craft Island, in which a tribe of peaceful and kind Yoshi's thrived and took things very leisurely due to the calm and inhabited nature of this world. That was until...that "one" day...occurred. The Yoshi's had gathered around in one spot for any number of reasons and good old Kamek noticed such an opportunity and decided to put his demands into action. Hovering down to the group he demands that everyone here be turned to yarn for the royal and important master, Baby Bowser! At that moment with Kamek activating his powers as all the Yoshi's fabric starts tearing themselves apart until they're nothing but measly stands, ready to be taken over and made towards a bigger castle for his koopliness far away. Unfortunately for him, he allowed 2 Yoshi's to slip his grasps and their attack on him caused our rotten villain to barely escape their grasps...also causing him to drop much of the Yoshi's yarn on his flight back over. Both of them look at each other in agreement that they MUST get back their stolen friends and stop Baby Bowser; otherwise, peace will never return back to Craft Island and the other areas of Handmade Ocean! ...yeah...that's kind of what I meant by overdone and not very surprising to most gamers since the whole Baby Bowser combo has been done multiple times and it's soooo mysterious that BOWSER would wanna cause trouble again to the Yoshi's after...4-5x if not more now? The story isn't awful in its own right; but, in the Mario universe it's just used very often and doesn't capture any suspense from anyone these days...is kind of almost as bland as the princess is kidnapped by that vile koopa malarkey you see in this series too.

Because of this I really can't feel comfortable giving this game only a low-low 3 out of 10 for the story it presents, as it's definitely not the "WORST" story ever...like many sequels in a genre though after so many times it can get really sick without any major changes. With that saddening note...let's just move on... *Whimpers painfully on floor from score, heading to next area*

                                |?|An adventure offering more standard options...yet less to leave off on!

It seems Woolly World really is like the material it's named after, rated fabulously in some ways and horribly/worse in other ones. The sound and looks have stayed intact when compared while the as you just previously read the story and addictiveness have faltered poorly and awfully, at least when you see how low the story was soiled and abysmal amount of extras that were made into this game. Since really to be honest after you complete the main story (which you probably won't pay that much attention to) and its levels, you won't have much to continue off on as there aren't really any extra features like decorating and/or missions to be completed once your game ends. That alone right there would lead it to a less than average score on its own means; and yet, the one thing that actually semi-saves its place is how long the game level wise. To put it in a comparison like view, Epic Yarn has 49 levels (50 if you count training level) while this game has 48 levels which is roughly around the same size as Kirby's game right? So what's the big deal? Well...that's because those are just the standard levels, if you count the secret level hidden throughout each world then you'd end up with 57 levels to play through all the way. The natural games length seems appropriate now, so what else can cause the games depth factor to remain at a normal range? Time to go look at what what you "CAN" unlock by doing certain tasks in these levels.

           **[X]Unlockables[O]**

In Yoshi's Woolly World there are 7 secret levels that you can access and 1 extra secret level to be found within them, the only question is how the heck do you open them since there isn't much to the game except for its levels? Well there are around 5 flowers in each level of a world and if you're able to collect all of them inside that entire world, you'll end up unlocking the secret level for that one world. This may or may not be difficult depending on how well you work with this games controls and knowing the locations of each of those flowers. Once you the 235 flowers from the main overworld you can now enter all of the secret levels; although, it doesn't end there since once you start those areas you have the 35 remaining flowers of the 270 to collect. After doing so you're able to head off and finish the last secret level in the game: "World *-S" which is one of the more lengthy levels in the entire game and combines setting/area types from all the previous worlds you just went through. There's also a nice little message in gems for the hero of this adventure if you're able to make it to the end! The final unlockable is to collect 5 Wonder Wools in each level just like the flowers and there are 275 in the entire game, doing this will allow you to unlock different colored/costumed Yoshi's to play as in any level of this game! Something nice artistic wise, though still not much for what you'll be going through.

Weaving together all these lines and criss-cross designs amongst this game, we can see that there are many levels to explore throughout this story...the major downside to it though is that it's ALL that you really having the game besides a few select hidden things to gain during this adventure. Last piece of information that would be noteworthy here is that in several levels...Yoshi is able to transform just like Kirby in a metamortex, between changing into a gargantuan sized Yoshi whom can bash down any foes in your path or into a mermaid based Yoshi to help swim through and gain collectibles during levels. Due to that addition I feel a middle of the road 7 out of 10 is deserved here, time to head out to our final case! *Uses umbrella form to chute down to final segment*

___XxxX|Seemingly non-existent difficulty, in this cutey woolly world|XxxX___

There certainly are a lot of no's going around in this review huh? Since when did that lovely Yoshi taunt become so negative to gaming?! Ok...In all seriousness this section again doesn't factor itself very highly. We already had to give that pink puffball a beat-down and run for his money on the difficulty of their said game, so how does the green dinosaur's quest seem in comparison to Epic Yarn boy's in terms of this setting? *tosses egg up at title* In case the title of this didn't spell it out clearly for you, this games level of difficulty is practically bottom of the barrel since there is no real difficulty ANYWHERE that I can notice? I know before in Epic Yarn I had said there's no way to die, so technically wouldn't this game be more so difficult since you actually can if you mess up at one point or another? That is correct; Albeit though, in Kirby's game it was actually WORSE to your case that you weren't allowed to die since you couldn't just die and start at an earlier point in the level to get more gems again...if you were rushing for a certain rank/patch by the end of it. In Yoshi's woolly world if you do die in a stage you'll be sent back to the beginning or your latest checkpoint, (depending on how far you got into the stage) which means you can collect beads/flowers/or wonder yarn you may have missed beforehand due to a slip up in controls or misfiring in your wool eggs.
The second main reason that I feel this game is a lot easier is the fact that if you're having a tough time with certain levels not only can you switch to "Mellow Mode" described earlier...there is actually a store to which you can buy certain power badges from that appears right before you enter a stage. Each one varies and some can make certain levels a cake-walk to you where you're on normal or mellow mode either way. A few examples could be like: "Fall in Pit?" which basically makes it so bottomless pits aren't an issue and your Yoshi can jump in and out of them as much as you wish, "Fire/Lava Immunity" which is self-explanatory and basically makes any fire/lava level a tiny whisper of a threat in comparison to how dangerous it may normally be to normal players, and even "Clear The Course" which allows you to completely skip an entire level if you don't wanna do it! (the only caveat with this one is the fact that it ONLY works in Mellow Mode) In terms of basic difficulty though the game is very fair, in regards to puzzles you'll need to figure out or what you'll need to do to defeat certain bosses and what not.

So basically there reallly truly isn't much of a difficulty level for this game, since unless you're purposely trying to kill yourself each time...I doubt you'll end up stuck at one level forever with all of the options you have available. Taking all of that into consideration, just like how easy it can be to pass a stage in this dino's journey...it's also very easy to rate the difficulty a 1 out of 10. (Which is so close to being an N/A score honestly) Time to bring this quilt down to its final knitting point! *uses Clear Course badge and skips to ending*

Huuupp!! RRRRnngh!! *throws yarn ball at monster of Vizzed as it fades away* woooahrrn! Sonnac! ..... *Wonder Wools fall onto Craft Island as User, Zerotails, Eniitan and others turned back to normal residents* the evil tyrant has been thrown off his reign...peace has been restored and can finally return to Craft Island and all of the Handmade Ocean once again! Though the story may be old and the victory only just barely won, at least we can now say...it's finally put to it's natural happy close...just like the end of a hand-stitched project <3' Hopefully that vile baby will think next time about fooling around with those groups of Yoshi's again! Whether this time was short or it becomes a long and treasured memory, am absolutely sure...it lit a candlelight fire...and childish smile/happiness inside our warm woolly hearts! *Sonic57 gives peace symbol to camera, as wool quills fall off their stitching's*

                                            ~Sonicthehedgehog57+Pokefreak219tm 2015~

                         [===]Crafting and tossing together, many levels of interest and design}_-_{

            |__)()(_/Wobbly Mobile Jaunt_()()__|

Very nice review, Sonic!

This game sounds, and looks great! I really want to try it out sometime. It's just so fluffy and adorable. I also got a plush yoshi amiibo...It's so soft~. You did even better with this when I remember how long it took you to turn this review out.

I wonder what the character limit on this thing is.

sonicbros : am glad you enjoyed it, yeah my work is very long compared to most...but that's because I wanna give it it's own unique feel and interesting design. Making people (hopefully) drawn into reading more and more of it till they reach the end happily. (sort of like certain book authors)  Am sure you could still write something nice though if you really got into it!

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
