baileyface544 : I definitely agree, magic users are the most powerful and applicable units for nearly every scenario. I love the new tactician from FE13 (Awakening) because I get to use both swords and magic, which easily makes my unit one of the most (if not the most) powerful unit I have.

I generally end up maxing out my sword users first, though. A maxed sword user is generally very effective, even with the weakest swords of any given game, meaning they're also the most economical units to use.

mrfe :
True, I will agree with you there. Swordmasters and such can be quite useful with lower equipment, and they are more economical.
Also mages tend to be a lot harder to level up to a point of usefulness because they get so easily revenge killed at lower levels, meaning you really have to keep them extra safe, while most swordsman can either tank a few blows, or dodge a lot of hits.

Still, while I tend to have a lot more swordsman than mages in my army, the mage is always my favorite. Especially when they get the use of staves making them back-up healers (you know, when they aren't busy painting the battlefield with the blood of your enemies)

The Tactician really really is an awesome class though. I only ever change class to pick up skills, then immediately change right back!

For me would be sword or magic because I am able to work on those at best. And its a very useful tool for when fighting enemy's of the sort. For magic it can be used to heal people or elemental attacks which can cause highly effective damage on a certain type of enemy.

As an rpg'er, I love all aspects of the classes.  I, myself, have a decent collection of swords, axes, maces and such.  Not so much on the magical side, but who does these days.  I would love to be able to create fire or ice from my mind with the flick of a hand or the summons from my mouth.  As for a weapon I can wield in my hand, I would go with the shield.  It can be used both offensively and defensively, both to thwart physical attacks and magical ones

I've always been a fan of Magic and Lance users, but I picked Magic. I've always loved wizards, witches, mages...etc in any context or universe. They're just so cool and the concept of magic; as one of limitless potential, always seemed so cool.

My best units are typically my magic users. They have defense penetrating attacks, range, and they can heal other units when promoted! So there's no reason to ever not have them around. The anima users have the coolest attacks. But dark users are hilariously overpowered. As for actual weapons, I like Lances and Swords. But since most baddies wield axes, I may lean towards sword users.

I wonder what the character limit on this thing is.

I love the mess out of lances. I tend to be defensive when going for military games. A good Knight class with a lance can hold out even in the worst case scenario with High Defense and rapid critical attacks. They can usually KO or kill with double strike. Add a Cleric or a mage and the army will be new stoppable.

Although I love having a Wyvern with a sword/lance and a Pegasus with a bow to run as scouts through out the map to get those bonuses or pick up prospective soldiers.

I personally prefer magic as a  weapon because you can attack adjacent, enemies next to, or one square away from you and it really spaces out the map in levels. A magic user who has a high chance of attempting critical a can be really fatal in the game which is why it's my favorite weapon in Fire Emblem games.

I've always been a sword kinda guy, so that's always been my preference in just about any given game. Fire Emblem is no different in that aspect, as any character proficient with swords I will have them use one (unless its better to use something else for a certain enemy). Plus I love that many of the main characters use swords, and employ them in combat as much as possible.

I love magic. Usually it is the strongest weapon, as you can usually attack from 2 spaces away or diagonal to set up for a kill from someone with a sword, axe, or lance. For a physical weapon, I usually choose bows because they have the same range that magic has.

I have never played Fire Emblem so I'm going to answer this as a general purpose question and relate it to, say, Dungeons & Dragons.

I go with the axe. Not only is it visually impressive and intimidating, it is multi purpose. You might not need to gather firewood in Fire Emblem but if you got cold after a battle, you could cut down a tree and start a nice campfire. You could even do a cook fire and have something nice to eat after destroying your opponents.

Heck, does Fire Emblem go rogue and become a zombie wasteland? Axes are useful because I could break into a house or door and find shelter if I needed to.

The axe may not be the strongest or easiest weapon in Fire Emblem but it has the most style points to me. And it can do more than just split skulls open.

I never played Fire Emblem,so I will attempt to answer in a survival situation or zombie apocalypse way.

Sword-Good all around weapon, decent reach, and less recovery time.

Axe-More power, more utilitarian use,but heavy and has a longer recovery time.

Lance-The best range, but only good at the tip and has a very long recovery time.

Magic-Since magic does not really exist,I will not include it. But if it did,it would be good for ranged attacks or other things, but I imagine that your magic would depend on how much of a magic reserve you have.
