janus : To be honest, I'm kind of mad about them getting rid of pennies. I know they were more costly to make than they were actually worth, but we should've just made them out of a cheaper material.

SilverHyruler : It had been done for at least 10 years before its abolition (something like 95% steel, which made them much lighter). This occurrence is just the logical conclusion of a currency whose worth plunged by 95 percent since the coming of the Bank of Canada. I don't want to get too political but that's the underlying cause.

Anyway, as long as government controls the monetary supply not having pennies will be practical. Besides, rip-offs are very unlikely since the rounding off is automatic and predictable.

janus : Then at least store's should stop claiming 9.99 and stuff like that. It makes sense in other places, but here it's totally illogical, and a complete and utter lie!

SilverHyruler : I heard there was a psychological element to it. Seeing 9.99 rather than 10 seems to induce people into thinking it's less expensive...

But for the rest, yes it's a lie especially when you factor in taxes and fees. Only liquor stores understand the importance of including taxes in their prices.
