To cheat...or not to cheat.

In video games, do you like to use the cheats, and look up the info on the game?
Yes, I like the extra edge.

I typically like to not even use a walkthrough while playing a game, but it also depends on the game. So cheats are pretty much out of the question for me, lol.

I think cheating in a video game is a very cowardly thing to do. I don't like using cheats especially in easier titles such as the Pokemon series. For those reasons, I vote not to cheat.

I don't like to use cheats that much.  I'll only cheat when if I'm doing bad at the game or if I have already completed the game so I can have a little fun.

I'm a do it yourself WITHIN REASON gamer.  I like figuring things out for myself, but I am not perfect, and I get stuck. A lot. Thus the guides come out of I ask someone HOW DO I GAME THIS GAME? quite a bit if I know they've already played or are at least farther along than I am. I prefer to have my gaming experience be fun, not full of enough frustration to make me never want to play again.

I don't use cheats. That's one thing I just never have been interested in. I seriously think the only 'cheat' I've ever used is the Mew glitch in Pokemon  Yellow, because there was never gonna be another way for me to get Mew in that game. Other than that, never cheated. I had a gameshark for the Playstation 1, but I don't even remember what I ever USED it for, if I ever did, actually. It was given to me by a friend and I never really figured out what to do with it other than let it sit on my shelf.

I don't like to cheat unless I've been stuck for quite a while and seemingly can't figure something out on my own. The only cheat I use anymore (besides glitches after I've already beaten the game) is walkthroughs on YouTube. I don't know if that should count as a cheat or not.

However, I used to use Game Genie codes for a ton of games. Back then I found it more fun to cheat, but now I prefer the more adventurous way, which is doing it with no cheats.

Before I got into Vizzed, I was at c). Games like Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals can get VERY hard; puzzles like "the world's most difficult trick" or trying to burn the grass with your fire arrows are nearly impossible to do on your own. It also took me a guide to find "that inlet by the Centra continent" in Final Fantasy VIII to continue my progress in the 3rd disk.

But once I started playing retro games online, I basically have the FAQ next to me. Granted, it's essential for speedruns and making films more "professional", but I've grown more... dependant on them. Besides what's the point of wasting hours when you can have the solution at hand?

Well, there is certainly nothing wrong with using cheats when you are playing a video game. Have I ever used a cheat before? Of course I have and I have a hard time believing some other gamers who say they have NEVER used a cheat in a game before. I guess it is not impossible because some of the other younger gamers may not know of cheats in a certain game ( I know I never did when I was younger ) but once you discover them, it's almost like you have an obligation to try some cheats. Why wouldn't you? They are part of the game.

As far as Game Genies and Game Sharks go, I have never used one of those before, but I have used countless cheats in many different video games because it makes it a little more enjoyable when you have an advantage. However, I would never cheat when I am playing online and participating in multiplayer adversarial game modes. It would not be as entertaining and I do not see the point because how could you brag about all the awards or points that you have received for cheating. It just does not make sense to me. But if I'm playing by myself and just finished up a tough chapter in a game or beat a certain frustrating level, then maybe I have earned a little free time playing around with some cheats. After all, there is a reason why they add the ability to enter a cheat in a video game in the first place, because it offers additional entertainment. Like I said before, there is nothing wrong with using cheats and you certainly will not be degraded as a gamer for using them because you seek more varieties. Only if you use those cheats during multiplayer matches and other online game modes will you be prosecuted for "breaking the rules."

Also, I can understand how cheats break the spirit of the game, for example, by letting you complete a difficult game in half the time with half the effort but so what?! They buy the games with their money and they can play it however they choose. The developers know they made a very difficult game so they add some cheats to give the players the reasonable satisfaction that they deserve. Especially now, since games are becoming more and more "realistic" with all the complicated game play and controls it is almost mandatory for them to add these cheats to their games. Absolutely nothing wrong with using cheats.

I never use any cheat codes in a game because I like to have that challenge to be able to complete the game that the game is meant to be completed, even if the game wants to outsmart me. But in some games such as the GTA series, I do use some cheat codes mostly for fun after I complete the whole game and saved it so those codes don't get saved and be on that data forever and ever.

As for those external software to install onto the consoles and handhelds, I don't really use them, although I did have a Game Shark for the PlayStation 2, but I have lost that disk and I just let it go and not deal with it. When I had that and I completed the game, I always use that for those games to play around with all the different coding the Shark has.

I actually owned a game shark for N64 back in the day.  It was fun for a lark, but in the end it ruined the game play.  I don't even know if I could find it today.

As others have mentioned before me, I generally beat a game, and then go back and use all the cheat codes and play the game a second time.  One of my favorite games to cheat on was SimCity2000.  I was delighted in elementary school during computer class when we had some free time and all I had to do was type "imacheat" into the interface to be able to make my city dominate over all of my classmates!  They totally thought I was just awesome at building sim cities.

As for walk throughs, I generally do use them.  There's no worse feeling than being stuck for 20 minutes running in circles trying to click on everything, even things that don't make sense, only to figure out you forgot to do some stupid simple thing 2 or 3 steps ago that would have allowed everything to fall into place.  Sure, I won't use the walk through to guide my every step, but just before frustration sets in, I'm on it.

I tend not to cheat in any games, unless I have beaten the game and am playing it again because I'm bored. Even if the game is infuriating and difficult, I'll hold the temptation to input some codes.

I also find cheating boring after a while. Depending on the game and the cheats involved, sometimes, you can only have so much fun...

You see, I play through the game legit the first time. One I 100% I use cheats just for fun. That way, no harm no foul.

I prefer to play games without cheats because by using cheats, you are not playing the game it is meant to be played, when I see my friends playing a game that is new to them and they start using cheats, I just feel like, "Why even play it if your just going to skip half the game using cheats?!". Although, I do use cheats, but ONLY after I have beaten the game just because I like to see what other features the game developers have implemented into the game through these cheat codes/glitches.

Well I am gonna be different to everyone else and say yes I use cheats if I am stumped. Games like LMA Manager has cheats in the game so I have no shame using them. I have used gameshark cheats to unlock stuff as I usually don't have the patience to unlock certain things such as Sonic heroes multiplayer (just an example). I don't always beat games "legitimately" and go back and use cheats. When it comes to online no I don't as it isn't fair on my opponent.

I always say I will never use cheats, but before you know I get stuck on this level or stage in a game and can't help myself, and cheat and then feel like I still been defeated...

Cheats are what I use for fun, like rare candy ar codes for pokemon, creative in MC, cheats in GTA/SR etc. I really don't use cheats until post game or new playthroughs as what's the point otherwise?

I only use cheats on games like GTA (for fun), Fallout (to see what to do next) or even Zelda occasionally (for when I am completely stuck). I only use them as a last resprt or a post-game treat.
