This hack is so fun! It's also a bit hard as well. Hello, ZeroTails here, and for my fourth review, I will review Sonic Erazor, which I hinted in my last review. So lets go!
Graphics:10/10 This hack has some same graphics as the original, but that's for a good reason. Like Green Hill Zone and the Special Stages. Green Hill Zone has the same graphics because it's supposed to reflect on this dimensional rift changing Green Hill Zone so much. The Special Stages stayed the same because, you get chaos emeralds by finishing the stage (the chaos emeralds are mandatory and useless). Some of the graphics that did change are former Marble Zone (called something else) and some other small changes that happen to help make this experience as unique as possible.
Sound:10/10 The sound changed a lot from the original. Most of the songs changed to another song that was remixed to fit the Genesis's sound chip, and they sound AWESOME. One of my favorites are Inhuman mode (Mega Man Zero 4: Straight Away), the hub world (Mega Man 7: Freeze Man) and probably all of the songs that were changed to Mega Man. I have absolutely no problem with this if it's done well, and it is done well. This category gets a perfect.
Addictiveness:8/10 This game doesn't take THAT long to complete, but your first play through will probably take the longest since this hack is pretty hard. Not impossibly hard, and each level feels new enough that you don't feel like your playing the same thing over and over again. Therefore I like to play this hack again once in a while, to experience the awesome music again, or see the explosions, or to see how I breeze past sections that once gave me trouble. Point is, this game was fun the first time around, and it's still fun every time I play the game again. This is just fun to replay once in a while.
Story:7/10 Now the story is better than the original, but I find that it's not as great as other games. This hack does have the best story for a hack I've seen so far though, so I'm rating it a 7. Basically Sonic is running away from a berserk badnick, and he runs into a ring that teleports him to an alternate dimension. He now has to beat Dr. Eggman, because beating Dr. Eggman restores the dimensional rift? Also, the chaos emeralds are here for no reason. That's the story in a nutshell and I just wish they would expand a little more on the story.
Depth:7/10 This game doesn't have any extra collectibles. However, the levels are unique and you have new abilities. Not Marble Zone has an Inhuman section that has spikes that teleport you, Scar Night Zone has a no gravity section where you have to avoid laser walls, and Not Labyrinth Zone has a gimmick where the camera doesn't move with you so you can die. If you aren't skilled enough to pass the section, you can go up to a ABC machine thing and press A,B, and C at the same time. You can also press ABC to skip Special Stages. You can double jump, spin-dash, do the running fast thing from Sonic CD, and in Inhuman mode, you can shoot bullets that you can bounce on.
Difficulty:9/10 This game is hard. However, you can skip hard sections and you have unlimited continues. Oh, and you only loss 20 rings per hit. That basically makes the game less hard, for a reason. You will get hit a lot, and you will die a lot. If there wasn't unlimited continues or that ABC machine, a first play through would be near impossible. This game is hard, but it's not cheap.
I had a lot of fun with this hack, and it's one of the best Sonic hacks out there. I'm going to warn you though, this game is hard. This was my fourth review, and my second hack review. I shall end the review now. This hack is so fun! It's also a bit hard as well. Hello, ZeroTails here, and for my fourth review, I will review Sonic Erazor, which I hinted in my last review.
