As an older gamer, it always bugged me about this Pokemon craze. Why in the world do the Pokemon say their own names? Do they say their names because they were called that? or did the people that discovered them just lacked any kind of imagination so they just called it the noise they were making? Personally, I feel if Pokemon had a touch of more realism to them, they would have more of an appeal. A Pikachu doesn't make an animal noise, it says Pikachu. How does this make any sense? I have played many of the Pokemon games on Vizzed, both regular and hacks. They seem to lack imagination to a point. Same old restrictions, Route 103 or what ever and bam another town. Same goals. Get badges, stop bad guy. I would love to see a true open world of Pokemon. Custom character. Standard starting Pokemon. Run across vast fields. Lengthy quests. Now, if someone were to make a Pokemon game from Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time, now that sounds enjoyable.
Seems like we might be do for a change from the same old Gameboy style Pokemon. If I knew how to hack games, I would so do this as a community service. I have gotten pretty decent with RPG maker 2k3, but I could never figure out certain features of it, but thats a topic for a different thread.
As the Pokemon community, does anyone agree with me on this? Or is the world satisfied with the same repeating of game play with just different generation of Pokemon?

Honestly, I'm fine with it . I mean, when you think of it like you're thinking of it, it doesn't sound very interesting. It might also be that Pokémon is definitely for different people. Pokémon is more for the people who like repetition. I appear to be one of those people, because no matter how similar the Pokémon games might be, I enjoy playing them all! Well, sort of. It's pretty boring to play Pokémon Pearl and then play Pokémon Diamond because you feel like you already did that. For me, there's just enough difference in each generation to make it fun.

Then there's the 6th Gen. They added mega evolutions. I haven't been able to play Pokémon X/Y or OR/AS, but from what I've seen from my brother's demo, it really does give the game more character. It brings back some memories from your old Pokémon gaming and makes them better by giving them new looks and making them stronger! It's like a new evolution for your favorite oldies.

Basically, the Pokémon games are very repetitive. But, going from person to person, different people like it more or less. Honestly, I've read that Pokémon X and Y had stories that ended as fast as they started and there was nothing to do after you beat it. But, it would still be lots of fun to play through the game and try to "catch them all!" This is just my opinion and I'm not sure how many other people would agree with me, but like I said, it's my opinion.

There's also a small part of my reasoning that I don't know how to explain. I don't know why, it's just like I'm hungry for more Pokémon and it's always fun if it's different. It doesn't even have to be very different, there just has to be enough difference for me to be able to notice it. If you do pay attention to the story line and don't talk about how repetitive it is, you might be more interested in it. Try not to think of it as, "Same goals. Get badges, stop bad guy." Trust me, you'll have more fun. Peace .

I mean it always hasn't been the same. They've switched it up with Pokémon stadium 1&2 and Pokémon Snap. Other than
that its been on the same basics I agree with you on that, But we need a new updated Pokémon game
for Xbox 360/Xbox One PS3/PS4 One that's a free roam Pokemon game.
I think that would be sweet..

Yeah, can still do the badges and such. Attack in the grass, okay sure, but update the game itself. Open world environment. 3D characters. More than four abilities at a time with the Pokemon. Make it more like you are playing the anime, and give it a full size console potential.

Pokémon has gotten somewhat boring for me (the regular game series). I've gotten to the point where I'll buy the new game, play for a while, and never play it again. Right now in Alpha sapphire, I'm at the fight with Kyogre.

I've decided not to get the next generation of Pokémon game unless they put something fresh and new into the game, or I have a lot of extra money.

I do think Pokémon needs something new. At the same time, it shouldn't throw aside the old system either. Maybe a spin off series of some sort?

I agree with most of the opinions I've read so farPokémon games have certainly become somewhat outdated, the arrival of newer generations only serve the purpose of bringing newer features to evolve the traditional formula while its solid foundation remains relatively intact. That was established years ago with the release of Pokémon Red,Blue,Green and onwards. For instance, the introduction of Pokémon Colosseum brought upon the franchise interesting gameplay mechanics like the ones involving Shadow Pokémon:The Purifying Shadow Pokémon system or the Call battle command that will allow you to shift their condition from Hyper Mode to Normal state(well *normal* may not be the right word for it but never mind that xP)then they removed random encounters and added the feature of obtaining more Pokémon by''Snagging''them from other Trainers using Poke Balls of various strengths instead of obtaining them through conventional means that do not require using the practice of stealing Pokémon(now THATS cool as hell xD)Oh!(I think I should mention these as well, hehe!)let's not forget it was the first true 3D role-playing installment in the Pokémon series and(as far as I'm concerned)the first one with an ACTUAL plot for a change BUT of course that doesn't keep it from being a bit more linear and straightforward in comparison to previous installments that came before it(now I feel like I am just rambling at this point LOL)Anyway, that game was without a doubt a step in the right direction to a good 3D Pokémon game, yet it didn't managed to cause further impact on a higher level to the series. My point is that the Pokémon Company,Game Freak and Nintendo should stop developing Pokémon games possessing intentions of evolving the traditional formula and move on to unexplored territories(I'll let you readers speculate on what do I mean by this).Sure, people don't like changes and more so when they have something they are deeply fond of.Thats just how is always going to be like and there is nothing that we can't do about it...Not even the ones that bring us awesome media franchises such as Pokémon(Arigato gozaimasu Satoshi Tajiri )

The thing I like about Pokemon is that it does do different things, just not in the main series. You want something different out of the franchise, you look for the less hyped up spin offs.
Like say, Pokemon  Mystery Dungeon. 3 (Technically 5) games to its name, and it's a fun little dungeon crawler, though the 4 moves thing is still in play.
Or Pokemon Conquest, where things take a more tactical approach, similar to Fire Emblem.
Or even Pokemon Trozei or some other simple Pokemon puzzle game.
Point is, most of the freshness you'll find in Pokemon is in the spinoffs.
I think the one 'series' that had a different story but with similar gameplay to the main series was the Shadow Pokemon duo, Pokemon Coliseum and Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness.

I have been saying the same thing for a long time, I even made a thread about it, a bit similar to yours. The best way to describe it for me is to have a Pokemon game like Skyrim, its Skyrim but Pokemon, doesn't that sound awesome?

Highly doubtful. The pokemon fanbase is very active, and on top of that, We're in the 3ds era. And wont get out till about the 8th generation. On top of that, tons of people are eating OR and AS. So I doubt it's becoming outdated.

The only reason why to my point of view, the Pokemon series always adds in new things in each generation, like right now, we are in Generation VI with a total of 719 Pokemon, so you can say that the series have been getting a lot better, so that way people don't find it boring. That's mostly why the series lasted for nearly 20 years.

I think many people are just tied to tradition, and that change would only be embraced by about half of the Pokemon fans out there.  I think the other half would just as eagerly welcome a more sand-box game such as you've suggested.  For example, I find your idea HIGHLY appealing. In fact, the exploring and collecting aspect is really what I like about Pokemon games.  I don't care for their plots and usually speed through the dialogues.  I also don't listen to the sounds and could care less what sounds the critters make.  I just like to walk around and collect.

Is Pokemon outdated?  While it might not enjoy the fame it used to, I think it's impressive that it still has a monstrous fanbase.  I think it's success will last for decades in all honesty.  The fad might only die down if it gets replaced by something that kids enjoy even more, but the transition would be a slow one.

I can certainly see the appeal of sticking with tradition. There is a certain charm to it. I can definitely can see a Skyrim style Pokemon. And in a little mmo and pvp. Open world exploration,, with 3d characters.

Darthdaishi : I see your point, and I agree with you. Pokemon games are getting too repetitive. I would like to see a change for once, the trainer has a sword, and stops the bad guy with his friends, his Pokemon. If you wanna see something different, I suggest you try PokePark. Different from main series, Pokemon talks, and I think it's better than Mystery Dungeon. A Pokemon game zelda edition would be awesome to see!!

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
